It often seems as though you can’t turn around without seeing new diet pill of magic weight loss formula that promises to make it easier than ever to lose weight. No matter what their wild claims may suggest, it is possible (not to mention practical) to shed those excess pounds with a common sense approach. Every weight loss program covers at least a few of the basics. The only difference is in how they package those basics. Here are five basic steps to help you lose weight quickly and easily.

1. Calories Count – This is a critical part of any weight loss program. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. Furthermore, you can potentially consume more calories in five minutes than you can burn off in the same amount of time. A simple formula to remember is that 3,500 calories equals one pound. That means if you can reduce how many calories you take in by 500 per day, you will lose one pound per week. By keeping track of your calories you will be more aware of how much you are eating, and be able to control your intake more easily.

2. Portion Control – While counting calories has its benefits, there are times when it simply isn’t practical. But that should never be an excuse to pig out and put your weight loss plan on hold. So, what should you do? The answer is to take smaller helpings of food. Slow down, and your brain will get the signal you are full, so you won’t ever feel like you’re depriving yourself. And no matter how you were brought up, it’s okay to leave some food on your plate.

3. Eat Healthy Foods – Counting calories and watching portions are only part of the bigger picture. to lose weight, you need to choose foods that are healthier for you. As long as you are limiting your calories, it’s smart to make sure those calories are of a higher quality. Junk food that’s laden with fat and sugar are empty calories, they don’t offer any nutrition. Your best bet is to stick to fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, low fat dairy and healthy fats (in moderation).

4. Stay Hydrated – Even though recent studies show that drinking eight glasses of water a day doesn’t help you lose weight, you still need to drink plenty of water. There are other beverages you can drink, but water is the best choice; it has no calories, is necessary to good health, and helps to flush out your system.

5. Maintain Good Health – Most people try to lose weight to get healthy, but you also need to stay healthy as you are losing weight. We sometimes have a tendency to overdo things. You could lose weight quicker if you are obsessed with it, but then other aspects of your health will suffer. The best way to go about weight loss is to do so with a balanced approach.

“The Fat Smash Diet Plan” is a fairly popular diet book that was written by Ian Smith. The book took off in popularity at the same time Celebrity Fit Club was soaring in the television ratings. The Fat Smash Diet claims to be a 90 day program that doesn’t require you to count calories, and further promises that you won’t feel hungry while on the plan. Now that’s the kind of plan that most dieters are looking for!

That all sounds great, but what is the diet all about, and does it really work? Those are the questions that should be asked before you decide to start any diet program. Fortunately, the Fat Smash Diet Plan has all of the elements of a sound program. It doesn’t make a lot of outrageous claims that can’t be backed up. It’s also missing some of the elements that are so prevalent in fad diets, such as forbidding whole groups of food.

The basis of Smith’s approach is sensible eating and moderate exercise. On top of that, he strongly suggests people on the Fat Smash Diet Plan to get as much support from their friends and family as they can. This can help a lot if you normally struggle with weight loss. Plus, if you can get the support of the people who are close to you, they can encourage you and help you stick to your plan. This makes it that much easier to get rid of those extra pounds.

It’s all too common for a weight loss regimen to focus on just the food, or just the exercise, but you need to work on both if you want to lose weight. The first step of the Fat Smash Diet Plan is to detoxify your system. There isn’t any solid medical proof that this works, but it may help in some cases. If nothing else, it sends the signal to your subconscious that you are making a change for the better. This stage of the plan takes nine days. Some people experience mild side effects, so you may want to do it at a time when you aren’t too busy.

The full Fat Smash Diet Plan is comprised of four different stages. We mentioned the detox stage, here are the others:

Stage 3 adds carbohydrates in the form of wheat, pasta, bread and even some desserts (thank goodness).

Being on a weight loss program has its ups and downs. One of those downs is eating the same foods over and over again. Sure, you may see results, but if you get bored with what you’re doing, then the chances are better than average that you will stop dieting and go back to eating whatever you want. Before you give up, though, you may want to try some diet shake recipes. These will add variety to your diet, taste delicious, and will help you as you try to lose weight.

Smoothies and shakes are an ideal diet treat in the summer months because fresh produce is so plentiful. However, with all of the frozen fruit available, you can enjoy tasty shakes and smoothies throughout the entire year. Frozen fruit tastes just about as good as fresh; add in some low fat yogurt, and the shake will have an even better taste and be more enjoyable.

One of the diet shake recipes that I like uses mandarin oranges, mango and ice. Then I add a scoop of protein powder and low fat yogurt. This makes a refreshing beverage that not only tastes good, but it will also fill your belly and help you lose weight at the same time.

From time to time, when I want to mix things up, I will replace the yogurt with banana (sometimes I use both). Adding fruit juices is another way to give fresh flavor to your smoothies and shakes. For example, cranberry juice has positive health benefits for your kidneys. Add some cranberry juice, apple juice, blueberries, strawberries and banana together, then blend it until smooth. This makes an excellent breakfast drink and is a great way to start your day.

If you love the taste of chocolate, but can’t eat it because it’s too high in fat, then there is good news! You can add cocoa powder to your diet shake recipes. One good one is to mix cocoa powder, banana, low fat yogurt, honey and ice together. Now you can satisfy your chocolate craving without having to feel guilty about it. Of course you shouldn’t drink a smoothie like this every day, but it makes for a nice change of pace that will help you stick to whatever diet plan you may be on.

While diet shake recipes and smoothies can be good for you. They are not the full solution to losing weight. If you are serious about shedding those excess pounds, then you need to do so from several different angles. You need to decrease your overall caloric intake. There are several ways to do this, but how you do it is less important than the fact that you’re doing it. You also have to work on burning more calories. Again, doing it is what counts. You don’t have to spend countless hours at the gym doing boring exercises. Just get moving!

Finally, feel free to experiment with diet shake recipes of your own. If you stick with low calorie foods, then the resulting shakes and smoothies should taste great and help you lose weight.

3 Tips For Choosing A Weight Loss Program

Statistics make it very clear that the population, as a whole, is getting heavier and heavier. The problem with this is that it comes with a lot of bad consequences on our health. Perhaps that’s why so many people are trying to lose weight. One of the most common ways for doing this is to find a weight loss program that sounds interesting. If you are looking for a weight loss program, then you are aware of how many different ones are out there. In fact, there are so many that it can get downright confusing, but that should never be an excuse for not losing weight. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you choose the best weight loss program for you.

1. Research. There is no way around it, this is going to take some time. As mentioned, there are a lot of different programs out there, and they often contradict one another. However, one of the main things you are likely interested in is results. After all, it doesn’t matter how good a program is supposed to be if it doesn’t work for you. The first thing you can do is read how each particular program has worked for those who have tried it. Pay extra attention to any claims of the diet not working, and why it didn’t work for that person. It can still work for you, but you will have more realistic expectations once you begin.

Next, look for any endorsements from organizations and professionals. Of course you will give extra importance to people and groups you have already heard of and trust. At the same time, watch out for endorsements from people you have never heard of and don’t know if you can trust them. Either way, it is up to you to do your due diligence to see if the people are qualified to make an assessment of any weight loss program.

Furthermore, part of that research has to include talking to your health care provider. They will be aware of any potential problems you may run into, and they will also be able to add recommendations of their own.

2. Cost. The truth is that we all have different budgets, and that may prevent us from doing certain diet programs. For example, some plans include having ready-made food delivered to your home. While they may work, they also cost a lot of money. If you have the money to spare and you would like to do this type of plan, no problem. However, if you can’t really afford it, but try it anyway, you will start to feel angry if you don’t see immediate results, and that won’t help you to lose weight.

Not to worry, though. The effectiveness of a weight loss program isn’t measured by how much it costs. So, keep looking and you will find a plan that fits into your budget.

3. Think logically. Sellers of diet programs are experts at getting you worked up emotionally, but don’t fall for that trap. That’s why it’s so important to do the previous steps; they will help you to look at various weight loss programs logically. And, that means you are more likely to choose the one that’s the best for you.

There are many different weight loss surgery procedures but the weight loss surgery diet does not vary too much. High protein is essential to promoting healing and stimulate weight loss. But right at first the weight loss surgery patient needs to take it slowly when reintroducing foods to the digestive system.

After each procedure the pouch left by the surgery is only big enough to hold about an ounce of food. The weight loss surgery diet for the first few days following the surgery is high protein liquids only.

If all goes well, the patient can then graduate to puree or baby food consistency foods, all high protein as well. Baby food is a really good choice by the way. It is inexpensive and you can add some high protein powder to it if the protein amounts are inadequate.

When introducing more solid foods back in to your digestive system, you will be told to learn to chew your food well to avoid discomfort that can become extreme if you do not. Of course if you forget and do not chew your food well, you will only do it once. The discomfort you will feel will be very memorable and you will not forget again.

If you have already had your weight loss surgery you already know the “four rules” you need to follow regarding your follow up diet. The most important of the Four Rules is protein first. Which means that of all the nutrients taken in, patients should eat protein first, then carbohydrates, then fat.

The formula for computing how much protein you should be consuming in one day after your weight loss surgical procedure is 0.68g X your body weight in pounds = grams of protein per day. On average, protein consumption should be any were from 60g to 105g per day. Of course this is based only on a 1,200 calorie a day diet and varies on the patient and the nutritionist who is handling their case.

Some rich sources of protein you can choose from are fish, shellfish, chicken or turkey, meat and eggs. Consumption of nuts and legumes are discouraged, especially at first because they contain more fat than animal based proteins and because they are high in fiber, they are more difficult to digest.

Any foods that cause gas like fresh vegetables such as broccoli, cucumbers, green peppers, and cabbage should be avoided at all costs.

A high protein diet promotes fat loss because it takes more energy to digest protein than the amount of energy it contains so your body has to find other energy sources, like your fat stores, to completely digest the protein you ingest. So it would stand to reason that a high protein diet will trigger body fat mobilization.

Protein is important for growth and development of healthy muscle, skin, hair, nails and blood production. Protein intake is also essential for the healing process and a few extra grams of protein a day couldn’t hurt as part of a healthy weight loss surgery diet.

Diabetic Weight Loss Diet – Healthy Foods Benefit You

If you are diabetic and overweight, you need a good diabetic weight loss diet to not only control your weight but also deal with levelling off your blood sugar. Keeping your weight and blood sugar under control is imperative to reducing the likelihood you will suffer the very serious complications that are known to be associated with diabetes.

Obviously the key to losing weight is to choose healthy foods to eat. Foods that also help control insulin production and release are a plus, too. Learning to eat a balanced diet for some can be a little tricky. An important part of keeping you blood sugar levels under control is learning to balance protein, fats, and carbohydrates of every meal you eat.

Keeping carbohydrates under control is key because some carbohydrates convert almost immediately into simple sugars and cause the pancreas to dump insulin into your system to counteract the meteoric rise in blood sugar. If this is not brought under control, you will find yourself with more problems than just diabetes.

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in abundance in fish with the highest concentration found in salmon.

Diets low in fat and cholesterol and high in green leafy vegetables and high fiber foods like whole grain is very important in controlling diabetes. Fruits should only be eaten in moderation due to their high natural sugar content which can make blood sugar levels spike then fall rapidly due to insulin overload.

Blood sugar levels should be checked regularly before and after meals and before bedtime to get an accurate idea of how the food you eat affects your levels especially when trying to lose weight. Diabetes is no laughing matter and when you are trying to lose weight on top of the diabetes you need to be extra careful. Take things slowly, keep careful, accurate records of each blood sugar check and keep a food journal, too.

As a whole, people are more overweight than ever. It wouldn’t really be that big of a deal if obesity wasn’t a risk factor for a whole host of other health problems. Lately there has been some buzz surrounding green tea weight loss. Is there any truth to the potential effectiveness of such a diet?

There is substantial evidence that the Chinese have been harvesting green tea for at least the past 4,000 years. And there’s no telling how long they were using it in some form before that. So, while most people in the West think of it as nothing more than a beverage, people in the East have long revered it for its medicinal qualities as well.

Of course, Western medicine takes a different approach to how it decides what works and what doesn’t for improving people’s health. A physiologist by the name of William Rumpler has been studying how green tea effects the oxidation of fat and energy expenditure in the body. In simple terms, he’s seeing how green tea boosts metabolism and increases weight loss. What follows are some of his early findings.

When the study was conducted, the only compound they were able to identify as aiding weight loss was the naturally occurring caffeine. As a control, they had some participants consume water that had the same amount of caffeine. Those who drank the caffeinated water did not show the same amount of weight loss as those who drank the tea.

So, what does this mean? It means that it isn’t the caffeine in green that’s making people lose weight. Other studies have shown that green tea contains an antioxidant called catechin. This is showing some potential. It’s believed that catechin reduces how much fat the body absorbs, and may help people feel full sooner. Regardless of what is causing the weight loss, it does appear that green does, indeed, help in getting rid of excess pounds. As if that weren’t enough, green tea has more health benefits. It reduces the risk of some cancers, lowers bad cholesterol and helps flush toxins out of the body.

More studies on tea are being conducted all the time, but the proof that is already out there is pretty good. Green tea weight loss diets are based on traditional Eastern medicine, and gaining approval from Western science, as well. Drinking a few cups of green tea a day should be all you need to take some weight off. Round out the green tea with better eating and more activity and you will take off more weight and improve your overall health at the same time.
