Diet Shake Recipes For Weight Loss

Being on a weight loss program has its ups and downs. One of those downs is eating the same foods over and over again. Sure, you may see results, but if you get bored with what you’re doing, then the chances are better than average that you will stop dieting and go back to eating whatever you want. Before you give up, though, you may want to try some diet shake recipes. These will add variety to your diet, taste delicious, and will help you as you try to lose weight.

Smoothies and shakes are an ideal diet treat in the summer months because fresh produce is so plentiful. However, with all of the frozen fruit available, you can enjoy tasty shakes and smoothies throughout the entire year. Frozen fruit tastes just about as good as fresh; add in some low fat yogurt, and the shake will have an even better taste and be more enjoyable.

One of the diet shake recipes that I like uses mandarin oranges, mango and ice. Then I add a scoop of protein powder and low fat yogurt. This makes a refreshing beverage that not only tastes good, but it will also fill your belly and help you lose weight at the same time.

From time to time, when I want to mix things up, I will replace the yogurt with banana (sometimes I use both). Adding fruit juices is another way to give fresh flavor to your smoothies and shakes. For example, cranberry juice has positive health benefits for your kidneys. Add some cranberry juice, apple juice, blueberries, strawberries and banana together, then blend it until smooth. This makes an excellent breakfast drink and is a great way to start your day.

If you love the taste of chocolate, but can’t eat it because it’s too high in fat, then there is good news! You can add cocoa powder to your diet shake recipes. One good one is to mix cocoa powder, banana, low fat yogurt, honey and ice together. Now you can satisfy your chocolate craving without having to feel guilty about it. Of course you shouldn’t drink a smoothie like this every day, but it makes for a nice change of pace that will help you stick to whatever diet plan you may be on.

While diet shake recipes and smoothies can be good for you. They are not the full solution to losing weight. If you are serious about shedding those excess pounds, then you need to do so from several different angles. You need to decrease your overall caloric intake. There are several ways to do this, but how you do it is less important than the fact that you’re doing it. You also have to work on burning more calories. Again, doing it is what counts. You don’t have to spend countless hours at the gym doing boring exercises. Just get moving!

Finally, feel free to experiment with diet shake recipes of your own. If you stick with low calorie foods, then the resulting shakes and smoothies should taste great and help you lose weight.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

3 Tips For Choosing A Weight Loss Program

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 04-11-2012-05-2008

Statistics make it very clear that the population, as a whole, is getting heavier and heavier. The problem with this is that it comes with a lot of bad consequences on our health. Perhaps that’s why so many people are trying to lose weight. One of the most common ways for doing this is to find a weight loss program that sounds interesting. If you are looking for a weight loss program, then you are aware of how many different ones are out there. In fact, there are so many that it can get downright confusing, but that should never be an excuse for not losing weight. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you choose the best weight loss program for you.

1. Research. There is no way around it, this is going to take some time. As mentioned, there are a lot of different programs out there, and they often contradict one another. However, one of the main things you are likely interested in is results. After all, it doesn’t matter how good a program is supposed to be if it doesn’t work for you. The first thing you can do is read how each particular program has worked for those who have tried it. Pay extra attention to any claims of the diet not working, and why it didn’t work for that person. It can still work for you, but you will have more realistic expectations once you begin.

Next, look for any endorsements from organizations and professionals. Of course you will give extra importance to people and groups you have already heard of and trust. At the same time, watch out for endorsements from people you have never heard of and don’t know if you can trust them. Either way, it is up to you to do your due diligence to see if the people are qualified to make an assessment of any weight loss program.

Furthermore, part of that research has to include talking to your health care provider. They will be aware of any potential problems you may run into, and they will also be able to add recommendations of their own.

2. Cost. The truth is that we all have different budgets, and that may prevent us from doing certain diet programs. For example, some plans include having ready-made food delivered to your home. While they may work, they also cost a lot of money. If you have the money to spare and you would like to do this type of plan, no problem. However, if you can’t really afford it, but try it anyway, you will start to feel angry if you don’t see immediate results, and that won’t help you to lose weight.

Not to worry, though. The effectiveness of a weight loss program isn’t measured by how much it costs. So, keep looking and you will find a plan that fits into your budget.

3. Think logically. Sellers of diet programs are experts at getting you worked up emotionally, but don’t fall for that trap. That’s why it’s so important to do the previous steps; they will help you to look at various weight loss programs logically. And, that means you are more likely to choose the one that’s the best for you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Weight Loss Surgery Diet – Tips For Staying Comfortable

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 03-11-2012-05-2008

0

There are many different weight loss surgery procedures but the weight loss surgery diet does not vary too much. High protein is essential to promoting healing and stimulate weight loss. But right at first the weight loss surgery patient needs to take it slowly when reintroducing foods to the digestive system.

After each procedure the pouch left by the surgery is only big enough to hold about an ounce of food. The weight loss surgery diet for the first few days following the surgery is high protein liquids only.

If all goes well, the patient can then graduate to puree or baby food consistency foods, all high protein as well. Baby food is a really good choice by the way. It is inexpensive and you can add some high protein powder to it if the protein amounts are inadequate.

When introducing more solid foods back in to your digestive system, you will be told to learn to chew your food well to avoid discomfort that can become extreme if you do not. Of course if you forget and do not chew your food well, you will only do it once. The discomfort you will feel will be very memorable and you will not forget again.

If you have already had your weight loss surgery you already know the “four rules” you need to follow regarding your follow up diet. The most important of the Four Rules is protein first. Which means that of all the nutrients taken in, patients should eat protein first, then carbohydrates, then fat.

The formula for computing how much protein you should be consuming in one day after your weight loss surgical procedure is 0.68g X your body weight in pounds = grams of protein per day. On average, protein consumption should be any were from 60g to 105g per day. Of course this is based only on a 1,200 calorie a day diet and varies on the patient and the nutritionist who is handling their case.

Some rich sources of protein you can choose from are fish, shellfish, chicken or turkey, meat and eggs. Consumption of nuts and legumes are discouraged, especially at first because they contain more fat than animal based proteins and because they are high in fiber, they are more difficult to digest.

Any foods that cause gas like fresh vegetables such as broccoli, cucumbers, green peppers, and cabbage should be avoided at all costs.

A high protein diet promotes fat loss because it takes more energy to digest protein than the amount of energy it contains so your body has to find other energy sources, like your fat stores, to completely digest the protein you ingest. So it would stand to reason that a high protein diet will trigger body fat mobilization.

Protein is important for growth and development of healthy muscle, skin, hair, nails and blood production. Protein intake is also essential for the healing process and a few extra grams of protein a day couldn’t hurt as part of a healthy weight loss surgery diet.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Quick Weight Loss Centers And If They Can Help You

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 01-11-2012-05-2008

You are curious about quick weight loss centers and if they can help you like they say they can. Well, yes they can but do not be fooled, the ‘quick’ may not be as quick as you think. Healthy weight loss takes time. If you do it too quickly you could get sick and lose muscle tone instead of fat.

There are many weight loss centers that are popular today and despite what you may think some of them actually can be good for you. We all know that having a lot of excess body fat is bad for your health. It can lead to cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, just to name a few. Losing weight and getting in better physical shape just makes sense.

If you want to jump start things before starting with one of the quick weight loss center and if they can help you, you could consider cleansing, this is when you go on a mostly, or all, liquid diet for up to a week before starting your diet. During the entire time you will flush out all of the toxins that are keeping your body from functioning to its full potential. There are many cleansing programs around today. Find one you like and get to it.

This is an example of great rapid weight loss diets that will not only jump start your weight loss efforts it will also help you clear out the toxins in your system. Most people who have taken a cleansing program have been able to lose up to ten pounds in a week. Granted it is mostly water weight but the greater benefit is the toxins that are removed from your body.

Now, the cleanse is done so you can start up with the weight loss center and keep on losing weight. The centers will not only provide some of the food you will be eating, they will show you how to change the way you think about your relationship with food. I know you have seen the celebrities who have lost weight on TV taking about how they had wonderful mentors and coaches to help them through to their weight loss goals.

If you join one of these weight loss centers, you will have the same opportunities as these celebrities have had. You will get your own mentor or coach to see you through to your weight loss goal.

Most of these weight loss centers today actually deliver your food right to your front door. They have made losing weight so convenient it is almost impossible to not find one that will work for you.

The most important aspect about any of the quick weight loss centers and if they can help you is the fact that they show you how to maintain the weight you have lost after you lose it so you can stay thin and healthy at your goal weight for the rest of your life.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Diabetic Weight Loss Diet – Healthy Foods Benefit You

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 30-10-2012-05-2008

0

If you are diabetic and overweight, you need a good diabetic weight loss diet to not only control your weight but also deal with levelling off your blood sugar. Keeping your weight and blood sugar under control is imperative to reducing the likelihood you will suffer the very serious complications that are known to be associated with diabetes.

Obviously the key to losing weight is to choose healthy foods to eat. Foods that also help control insulin production and release are a plus, too. Learning to eat a balanced diet for some can be a little tricky. An important part of keeping you blood sugar levels under control is learning to balance protein, fats, and carbohydrates of every meal you eat.

Keeping carbohydrates under control is key because some carbohydrates convert almost immediately into simple sugars and cause the pancreas to dump insulin into your system to counteract the meteoric rise in blood sugar. If this is not brought under control, you will find yourself with more problems than just diabetes.

Who knows, maybe if you lose the weight you will not have to prick your finger all the time and inject all of that insulin into your body every day. Maybe your diabetes will even disappear if you become fit and healthy.

Nutritionists and doctors have changed their thinking that all diabetics are the same and all can follow the same general diet. They can’t. A good diabetic weight loss diet today is tailored to the specific patient and promotes optimum nutrition for optimum health. Simple carbohydrates are kept to a minimum and protein that is high in Omega-3 fatty acids are encouraged. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in abundance in fish with the highest concentration found in salmon.

Diets low in fat and cholesterol and high in green leafy vegetables and high fiber foods like whole grain is very important in controlling diabetes. Fruits should only be eaten in moderation due to their high natural sugar content which can make blood sugar levels spike then fall rapidly due to insulin overload.

Blood sugar levels should be checked regularly before and after meals and before bedtime to get an accurate idea of how the food you eat affects your levels especially when trying to lose weight. Diabetes is no laughing matter and when you are trying to lose weight on top of the diabetes you need to be extra careful. Take things slowly, keep careful, accurate records of each blood sugar check and keep a food journal, too.

Get some ideas for planning your meals and snacks by going to the American Diabetes Association’s website and studying the diabetic food pyramid. You should be able to get some good information about diabetes and diet while on the site and learn to put what you learn into practice.

With Type II diabetes now in epidemic proportions in the United States because of the obesity epidemic following a good diabetic weight loss diet is as vital as the insulin you have been prescribed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Healthy Eating Plans For Weight Loss – Skip The Roller Coaster Diets

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 26-10-2012-05-2008

0

Roller coaster dieting (sometimes called yo-yo dieting) is a nasty cycle to get caught up in. This is a cycle where a person tries a weight loss diet for a while, loses weight, then goes off the diet. This is the down part of the roller coaster and it can feel pretty good, but it doesn’t stop there. Once off the diet, the person not only goes back to their original weight, but adds on a few extra pounds. This can wreak havoc on the mind and body, and is not healthy. So, why does this happen? There are a lot of specific answers, but they all come back to one thing: the diets themselves are to blame, not the dieters.

But you want to lose weight, right? There must be something you can do. Some of those diets sound so appealing, and a few celebrities swear by them (forget the fact that they also can afford an army of private chefs and personal trainers), so they must work. The truth is that some of them do work, but what doesn’t get mentioned is that they only work for so long…then the weight loss roller coaster starts going up, up and up again.

What you need is a way to break the cycle. What you need are healthy eating plans for weight loss. Forget all of the hype of the latest and greatest miracle diet cures, they don’t work as a long term solution.

The good news is that you can still eat all of the foods you love and don’t have to eliminate whole categories of food to lose weight. The key is to make better choices. You always have a choice, either about the food you eat, or how much of it you eat. Therefore, the first step of a healthy plan for weight loss is to take total responsibility for yourself. Nobody can force you to eat something against your will. To be blunt, you need to grow up and take a stand for your health.

If there are fattening foods that you absolutely must have, then try to eat half of your normal serving and take twice as long to do it. This way you will be able to enjoy your favorite foods. You will also learn to savor each bite, instead of just gulping it down without any thought. Doing it this way not only gives you more enjoyment form your food, it also gives your brain time to realize you’re full.

The other part of healthy eating plans for weight loss is to eat foods that are better for you. In general, you should avoid refined sugar and flour, opting for whole grains instead. Other foods to add include fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats (in moderation). The closer foods are to their natural state, the better. For example, a bowl of regular oatmeal is healthier than an oatmeal cookie.

Weight loss doesn’t have to be hard, though those who sell fad diets would like you to think differently. You can safely ignore them and follow your own healthy eating plan instead.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

I Can’t Lose Weight – Yes You Can

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Cardio, Fitness | Posted on 25-10-2012-05-2008

0

If you are saying to yourself, “I can’t lose weight”, then guess what? You can’t lose weight! See, along with changing your diet and exercise habits comes the emotional side of losing weight. Losing weight is a process that takes time and dedication.

If you have a lot of belly fat you may know that when under stress the body produces a hormone called Cortisol. Cortisol increases fat stores around your mid-section putting you at risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Learn some techniques to decrease the stress in your life. Meditation is a good technique to use to decrease stress. Yoga is another good way. Actually, just getting some regular daily exercise will go a long way to decreasing your stress level.

Try to think more positively about your life and your weight loss. If you do then the extra pounds will be long gone in no time.

Getting enough good sleep is also a big part of losing weight. If you are on the “I can’t lose weight” bandwagon then try getting an extra hour or two of sleep at night. The human body needs 7-9 hours of sleep per night and when you do not get it your metabolism starts to slow down and your body does not work the way it should. Those of us who work the night shift really have screwed up metabolisms. Working nights is very stressful on the human body. We were all meant to sleep at night not during the day.

Okay, so you have done all the things listed above and find you still cannot lose the weight. Let’s investigate the situation a little further. Are you drinking enough water? If you answer that you drink enough fluids then my next question is, do you drink pop or other sweetened drinks? If you do you need to stop. Regular pop, diet pop and other sweetened drinks are called empty calories because they have no nutritional value. The only thing they do is add to your excess fat. Did you know that if you do nothing else but stop drinking pop you can lose approximately 40 pounds in a year, give or take a few pounds.

Wait a sec, diet pop? Yup, diet pop is sweetened with artificial sweeteners and is basically poison. Diet pop actually tricks your body into staying fat. When you drink diet pop the body thinks it is getting something of value and when it realizes you were only kidding the brain signals the stomach that it is still hungry and you end up eating more.

Stick with the water and maybe some green tea. The green tea gives you an added benefit of antioxidants that are so important for your health and it tastes great, too.

So try to decrease the stress in your life, divorce it if you have to, get more sleep at night and give up the pop. This should help turn the “I can’t lose weight” into “Yes, I can lose weight”.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Master Cleanse Instructions – Jump Start Weight And Body Cleansing

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 21-10-2012-05-2008

0

Want to jump start your weight loss? Want to rid your body of unhealthy toxins while losing excess body fat? If you answered yes to either, or both, of those questions than you should give the master cleanse a try. For anyone who is unsure of what the master cleanse is or how you go about it, I will explain the master cleanse instructions in this article.

The master cleanse is a liquid mixture that anyone can make themselves at home with some commonly found household items. You will take this mixture in place of your meals for a ten day period. During that time you won’t eat any solid foods but rather exist solely on the cleanse mixture which can be supplemented with water, tea and clear broth.

By doing this you will lose anywhere from ten to twenty pounds (some of that weight loss will be in the form of water weight which you will gain back, but some will be in the form of excess body fat which you won’t gain back, if you eat right, that is).

During the cleanse you will also flush toxins from your body.  This isn’t the easiest of diets to stick to but for those who have, they’ve found that they have an easier time of eating healthy foods even after they’ve completed the cleanse.

That’s because the toxins in your system can have an addictive nature. The more junk you have in your system the more junk you seem to want. When you clean all the junk out, you simply don’t seem to have as many cravings as you once did which means it’s easier to stick with a good diet plan even after the cleanse.

You do have to make sure and ask your doctor if you can go on this type of diet. I’m not a doctor and I can’t give you medical advice. If your doctor says its ok than you should prepare yourself first.

To prepare yourself you’ll first want to pick a start date. Give yourself a week (or at least several days) lead time before you start the cleanse. Doing this will help you get yourself used to the idea. You can also help prepare your body by lowering the amount of calories you take in daily just prior to starting the cleanse.

If you eat your normal diet one day and try to only ‘eat’ a liquid diet the next, you’re going to find it’s very difficult to stick with. If, on the other hand, you make a slight change to the number of calories you take in as well as what types of foods you eat a day or two before you start the cleanse your body won’t be as shocked by the change and it will be easier to stick with the cleanse.

To lose excess body fat as well as detoxify your body follow these simple master cleanse instructions. Just make sure that you ask your doctor if he thinks it’s OK for you to do it. If you’re  not healthy enough for the cleanse you might do more harm than good.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Lose Weight And Build Muscle The Right Way

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet, Fitness | Posted on 20-10-2012-05-2008

0

To be able to lose weight and build muscle you need to be on a low fat, high protein diet and work out with weights on a regular basis. Low fat to help lose the excess body fat and high protein to help build the lean muscle mass, and the weights to tone, tighten, and strengthen.

If you are just starting out you will need to assess your current diet and make some changes. You can cut out most of the fat in your diet but remember, your body has to have some fats to work properly so you can’t cut them out completely. The fats to steer clear of are saturated fats, hydrogenated oils, and trans fats.

Some food choices that are good sources of fats that you should have are salmon, avocados, and olive oil. Just remember to eat these types of fats in moderation as well.

Proteins you should eat to lose weight and build muscle should be lean protein like boneless, skinless chicken breasts or turkey breasts, any kind of fish, and pork and red meat in moderation. You may choose to take a protein supplement as well if you are really interested in bulking up. Do not take any supplements or anything like that without talking to your doctor first.

Working with weights is a very important part of the equation. Even if you just followed the diet tips listed above, you might lose the excess body fat but your body still needs resistance training to help build your muscles. Now if you’re a woman I don’t want you to panic, when I say build your muscles I’m not talking about becoming the Hulk, rather just getting some nice, and feminine, muscle tone.

The truth of the matter is that women simply can’t get really big, they just don’t have enough testosterone to get really big. If you’re thinking to yourself that I’m wrong because you’ve seen the female weight lifters you must understand that even if they’re not taking any performance enhancing drugs, they are still working out as a full time job. Do you work out that much? Do you eat 100% healthy 100% of the time? Probably not so all you’ll do by lifting weights is to get a fabulously toned body that will burn fat even while you’re asleep.

To get the most out of your weight training remember, it’s all about the form. I actually just got back from working out right before I wrote this article and no matter how many times I see it, I’m still amazed to watch the poor form people use when lifting weights. Just today there was a young woman at my gym who was basically following me, she did all the machines or free weights I did. All I can say is that she must have been in a hurry because she did her sets so fast she might as well not have done them at all. She was hardly engaging her muscles at all, what she was doing, was letting gravity and momentum help her through her sets.  That’s not the right way to do it.

If you want to lose weight and build muscle there are three main steps: cut back on your fat intake, eat more lean protein and start weight training. Just make sure that you take it slowly when lifting weights, you want your muscles to do all the work, not gravity.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Foods To Eat To Lose Weight – Make A Difference

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 16-10-2012-05-2008

0

Have you been trying to find information on what foods to eat to lose weight? I think I can help you out. There are whole categories of foods available to help you lose weight.

Lean meats like chicken and turkey, fish, whole grains like oatmeal or cereal, fresh fruits and lots of fresh vegetables are the key to losing weight. The chicken, turkey, and fish give you the protein you need, the whole grains give you the fiber and the fresh fruits and vegetable give you the rest of the vitamins and nutrients you need for healthy living.

Processed foods are loaded with bad carbohydrates and should be avoided at all costs. Sugar and anything sweetened with sugar should be avoided also. Basically anything white, white sugar, white flour, white rice should not be included in your healthy diet plan.

How many of us would rather have a meal of steak and baked potato than a just a measly old salad? Yeah, me too. But there are many ways to dress up your salad. Go ahead and cook that steak but, instead of eating it with that baked potato, slice it up and put about three ounces on your salad. You can do the same thing with a chicken breast or a small can of tuna.

Do not worry, you will not have to eat salads for the rest of your life. There are so many foods to eat to lose weight you will not get bored with the same old thing all the time.

I know for most of us portion control can be a real problem. To get around this check what the serving size is on the package and eat only what is recommended. measure it out so you know you are doing it right and stop with the one serving, don’t go back for seconds.

When you go out to eat the portions they serve you are absolutely huge. Do not eat all the food they bring you! Only eat 1/3 to 1/2 of what they serve you and take the rest home. Skip the bread and dessert. If you find you cannot skip the dessert then ask your dinner companion would like to split a dessert with you. That one little move saves you half the calories. Awesome, now you’re getting it.

If you are overweight and change your habits to making sure you eat only the recommended portion sizes you can lose a good 25 pounds in 6 months. I know this because I have done it myself. I just decided one day that I was eating too much at one sitting and started cutting my portions in half and the weight came off almost without my knowing it. It was incredible.

If you make sure that every meal has a serving of lean meat, vegetables and a whole grain with a side of fruit, or have the fruit for dessert, you should have no problems when it comes to knowing what foods to eat to lose weight.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.
