7 Outstanding Weight Loss Tips

If you have been struggling to lose weight for longer than you’d care to admit, then you are not alone. At the same time, you have probably been misinformed, and that’s not your fault. It can be frustrating. You do everything you think you’re supposed to, but you just can’t get rid of those extra pounds. The following tips will help you with your weight loss efforts.

1. Exercise – As much as a lot of people would like to avoid it, exercise is one of the biggest boosts to losing weight. Not only will it burn calories when you’re doing it, it will also increase your metabolism and improve your overall health. Don’t worry, you don’t have to run a marathon to reap the beneficial effects of exercise. Just get moving and you will soon notice a difference.

2. Portion control – Give some thought to how much food you are putting on your plate. It’s all too common to mindlessly pile as much on our plates as the plate will hold. But we only need enough to fill our stomachs, which is usually much less.

3. Mind power – Keeping your mind sharp, refreshed and relaxed will help you cope with things that would otherwise derail whatever weight loss plan you’re on. Things such as meditation and yoga are a good way to do this.

4. Look at labels – When you are shopping for food, look at the nutrition labels. These will help you to select the foods that are lower in saturated fat, calories and refined sugar; and higher in protein, fiber and healthier fats. By doing this, you will have healthier food at home when you get hungry.

5. Grazing – The idea of eating three large meals a day is out of date when it comes to losing weight. The problem is that it gives you too much time between meals to get hungry, and the hungrier you are, the greater the chance that you will consume more calories when you finally eat. If you want to lose weight, then eat several smaller meals throughout the day. You will not only feel fuller longer, but you will also have a steady supply of fuel to get you through the day.

6. Eat, eat, eat – This is similar to the idea of grazing, but it is even more basic. It simply means that you should eat when you’re hungry. Of course you still have to give some thought to what you’re eating, but other than that, go ahead and eat when you’re hungry.

7. Drink water – Be careful here! It was a long-held belief that you had to drink at least eight glasses of water if you wanted to lose weight. However, there is now plenty of evidence that this is not true. But you should still drink plenty of water, just don’t think it will cause you to lose weight. Not only is water good for your health, but it also has no calories, and that’s a good thing for weight loss.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Is The 12 Day Grapefruit Diet The Answer

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 09-11-2012-05-2008

0

There has been a diet plan that has been around since the 1930’s. That makes it anything but a fad diet. What we are talking about is the 12 day grapefruit diet. Grapefruit has a lot of benefits for dieters. It’s fat free, low calorie, high in fiber and is packed with vitamin C.

The grapefruit diet itself is incredibly simple to follow. All you do is eat one-half of a grapefruit before each meal. There also appears to be enzymes in the fruit that keeps your appetite in check, meaning you will eat fewer calories overall. Grapefruit is also believed to speed up metabolism which helps to burn more calories. So, not only will you take in fewer calories, but you will also burn more off. Both of these things are key to losing weight. In fact, some tests have shown that it’s possible to lose ten pounds in two weeks by changing to the 12 day grapefruit diet.

So what’s the catch? Even though it has been around for as long as it has, the 12 day grapefruit diet is still classified along with fad diets. That’s because it relies on making only one change and doesn’t incorporate other necessary elements of weight loss.

You can do the diet, but that doesn’t give you a free pass to stuff your face with all kinds of junk food. You still need to watch what you eat, trying to eat a variety of healthy foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and whole grains. If you really want to shed pounds, you also need to exercise. That doesn’t mean you have to jog 10 miles a day, or hit the gym for 3 hours. Instead, find activities you enjoy and try to get moving for 20 to 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week.

At the same time, you should be changing your habits. Changing how you prepare food can have a big impact. Opt for grilling, steaming and baking instead of frying food. Eat 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day instead of 3 larger meals. Another good rule of thumb is to eat food in as close to its natural state as possible.

But does all of this mean the 12 day grapefruit diet is bad? Not at all. While you should still make all of the changes we just discussed, the grapefruit diet can help you lose weight quickly. It isn’t practical to think you could stick to such a diet, but it could give you a great start. Losing a few pounds in a week or two can be very motivating and will give you a better chance of weight loss success.

Finally, combining all of these things is the way to drop those extra pounds. Do the 12 day grapefruit diet, exercise, eat right, and make other habit changes and you will lose all the weight you need, lose it for good, and you won’t drive yourself crazy in the process.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

5 Healthy Weight Loss Tips

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet, Fitness | Posted on 08-11-2012-05-2008

It often seems as though you can’t turn around without seeing new diet pill of magic weight loss formula that promises to make it easier than ever to lose weight. No matter what their wild claims may suggest, it is possible (not to mention practical) to shed those excess pounds with a common sense approach. Every weight loss program covers at least a few of the basics. The only difference is in how they package those basics. Here are five basic steps to help you lose weight quickly and easily.

1. Calories Count – This is a critical part of any weight loss program. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. Furthermore, you can potentially consume more calories in five minutes than you can burn off in the same amount of time. A simple formula to remember is that 3,500 calories equals one pound. That means if you can reduce how many calories you take in by 500 per day, you will lose one pound per week. By keeping track of your calories you will be more aware of how much you are eating, and be able to control your intake more easily.

2. Portion Control – While counting calories has its benefits, there are times when it simply isn’t practical. But that should never be an excuse to pig out and put your weight loss plan on hold. So, what should you do? The answer is to take smaller helpings of food. Slow down, and your brain will get the signal you are full, so you won’t ever feel like you’re depriving yourself. And no matter how you were brought up, it’s okay to leave some food on your plate.

3. Eat Healthy Foods – Counting calories and watching portions are only part of the bigger picture. to lose weight, you need to choose foods that are healthier for you. As long as you are limiting your calories, it’s smart to make sure those calories are of a higher quality. Junk food that’s laden with fat and sugar are empty calories, they don’t offer any nutrition. Your best bet is to stick to fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, low fat dairy and healthy fats (in moderation).

4. Stay Hydrated – Even though recent studies show that drinking eight glasses of water a day doesn’t help you lose weight, you still need to drink plenty of water. There are other beverages you can drink, but water is the best choice; it has no calories, is necessary to good health, and helps to flush out your system.

5. Maintain Good Health – Most people try to lose weight to get healthy, but you also need to stay healthy as you are losing weight. We sometimes have a tendency to overdo things. You could lose weight quicker if you are obsessed with it, but then other aspects of your health will suffer. The best way to go about weight loss is to do so with a balanced approach.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

How To Lose Weight on the Thighs

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet, Fitness | Posted on 07-10-2012-05-2008

0

If you’ve got excess fat on your thighs then you probably also have excess fat throughout the rest of your body. Despite what you may have heard on various infomercials and programs there really is no such thing as “spot reducing” only one area of the body. The only way to learn how to lose weight on the thighs is to lose it all over and that takes motivation and determination. Motivation to exercise at least 30 minutes three times a week, watch what you eat and incorporate some weight training into your workouts and the determination to stick to it.

Here is something you may not know, you don’t have to kill yourself on the treadmill, the elliptical trainer, stair climber or stationary bike any more. Out with the old and in with the new. New studies have proven better and faster weight loss can be achieved by working each muscle group to fatigue during your workout by doing only one set at your maximum weight setting.  What this means is you can greatly reduce the amount of cardio training you do on the treadmill, stairclimber, elliptical trainer or stationary bike or eliminate it all together especially if you really hate it, and be honest, who doesn’t hate cardio?

Next and probably most important is your diet. Eliminate all “white” foods such as white flour, white bread, white rice and, white sugar. All of these contain carbs that convert into simple sugars in your body and get stored immediately as fat. Instead stick with a diet rich in complex carbs found in whole grains and brown rice, lean protein like boneless, skinless chicken breasts or fish, eat several servings a day of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water to flush out toxins and stay hydrated.

The general rule of thumb for taking in enough water every day is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. So, if you weigh 200 lbs you need to drink 100 ounces of water each day. Now that may seem like a lot but when you figure the average person is awake for 16 hours a day that means you would only need to drink about 6 ounces every hour. Stay away from carbonated beverages especially the diet variety. The stuff they use to make diet pop is poison and will actually trick your body into staying fat.

Remember, when you learn how to lose weight on the thighs you are learning how to improve the rest of your body as well. If you are scale averse then don’t use one. Feel the weight loss in the fit of your clothes, see the changes in your body in the mirror. Losing weight and then maintaining to keep it off should be a lifelong endeavour. Making some simple daily lifestyle changes especially in diet and exercise can go a long way in helping you reach your weight loss goals. So start today and watch the new you emerge.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

You Can’t Starve Yourself And Lose Stomach Fat

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Fitness | Posted on 30-09-2012-05-2008

0

Trying to lose stomach fat? Here’s a tip: You can’t do it by “starving” yourself. Why? Because eating less, while it may work for a little while…will actually put your efforts to lose fat in reverse after a time. This happens because your body adjusts to the amount of food you are eating and when it thinks you’re in “starvation” mode, it actually stores your calorie intake as fat! Not good, right? So, what is the solution? How can you take off the unsightly tummy roll and not starve yourself to do it? First off, you’ve still got to eat. The trick is to eat smarter.

Here’s how: eat smaller meals throughout the day while you’re more active and really pay attention to how many calories you’re putting in. It’s widely known if you continue to eat the same number or more calories than your body gets rid of (burns off) in a day, you’re not going to lose weight. You can still eat the “kinds” of food you like, you will simply have to closely monitor your calorie intake. Try to eat your meals earlier in the day, as well. Your body burns calories faster while you’re awake and active than it does during times of rest.

To lose stomach fat, don’t eat a heavy, high-calorie meal or snack right before bedtime. Your body is likely to turn those calories into fat because your body just don’t burn off that many calories by sleeping. According to the Calories Burned Chart at Spirita.net, a person weighing 150 pounds will burn approximately 12 calories during 10 minutes of sleep. If this same person slept for eight hours, they’d burn an average of 72 calories per hour, or only 576 calories in a full night of sleep. That doesn’t leave much room for snacking at bedtime, does it?

Some people feel they simply must eat a snack before bed to keep from feeling like they’re going to starve before breakfast. If this is you, before you grab that snack bar or something to munch, consider this: If you’re serious about taking off the stomach fat, you will need to have already burned your daily calorie intake away through regular activity or exercise, and then choose something with only one-half or less the amount of calories you’ll burn off by sleeping in order to still burn off a bit of the excess fat you want to get rid of.

You can lose stomach fat and you don’t have to eat special foods or no food to do it. You don’t have to (and in fact shouldn’t try to) starve yourself either. Since starving yourself tends to have the opposite effect than the one intended, you can obviously see it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to engage in this sort of “reverse effect” attempt to burn fat. Instead, concentrate on eating fewer calories than you know you can easily and reasonably burn off in a day and the fat will begin to disappear.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Don’t Pig Out When You Eat Out

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 22-09-2012-05-2008

0

Americans now eat two out of three meals outside the home.  That can mean trouble if you’re on a weight loss program.  How can you enjoy your restaurant experience and still lose weight?

Follow some basics rules no matter what type of cuisine you’re about to enjoy.

Send the bread and butter back to the kitchen.  You can consume 200 to 300 calories munching on bread before you even get to the entrée.

Have a low fat, low calorie appetizer.  It will stave off hunger pains and give you more will power or maybe that should be ‘won’t power’, when it comes to dessert.  Pick a seafood cocktail, clear soup, or vegetable dish.

Order a salad and have the dressing on the side.  Dip the tines of your fork in the salad dressing and then spear the salad.  You’ll taste the dressing but eat less of it. Olive oil and vinegar is your best bet for dressing.

Choose fish or chicken instead of red meat or pork.

Select grilled, broiled, or roasted instead of fried.

Ask for an extra vegetable instead of potato or other starch.

Sauces on the side always.

Select a dish that follows your diet guidelines but that you wouldn’t normally prepare at home.

There are other ways to save on calories when you’re dining out.  Have an appetizer, soup or salad, and split the entrée and dessert.  If no one will split it with you, split it with yourself.  Ask the waiter to immediately pack up half for you to take home.

If you like wine with your meal order it by the glass.  It’s cheaper by the bottle but it’s easier to keep pouring rather than ask the waiter for a new glass of wine.  Treat yourself to a more expensive wine than you’d normally order by the bottle.  Many restaurants these days have a nice list of wines they offer by the glass.

Drink at least one full glass of water with your meal.  It will slow down how fast you’re eating, because you’ll stop to drink.

Have fruit for dessert if you must have dessert.  Fruit may not be on the menu but the kitchen will probably oblige.  A dish of fresh raspberries can be just as satisfying as a slice of cake.

Don’t put your diet strategy on hold when you dine out and you’ll continue to lose weight.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Hoodia Power Pops – Lollipops For Weight Loss

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet, Fitness | Posted on 20-09-2012-05-2008

0

Eureka!  We’ve finally made it, now we really can eat candy and lose weight thanks to hoodia power pops.  The wonderful little lollipops are infused with genuine hoodia to help suppress your appetite between meals while also allowing you to indulge your sweet tooth in a guilt free way.

For those of you who aren’t really sure what hoodia is, here is an overview:

1. Hoodia is a plant that grows exclusively in the Kalahari Desert in South Africa.  The plant has been known for centuries by the native bushmen as an effective appetite and thirst suppressant.

2. Hoodia is thought to work by tricking the brain into thinking that the body is full, thus effectively shutting down the appetite.  If you don’t feel hungry, you won’t eat as much in between meals as well as during your meals and less food intake will result in weight loss.

3. When purchasing a supplement containing hoodia you must make sure that it’s the hoodia gordonii variety that has been added and not some other form of hoodia (there are over 20 different varieties but only the gordonii has been shown to have the P57 compound which scientists have isolated as the compound that provides the appetite suppressant.)

4. The P57 compound is not in the roots or skins of the hoodia plant, only in the core.  Therefore make sure that the supplements you purchase are made up with only core hoodia powder and not whole powder since whole powder will have a much lower concentration of P57 and won’t work as effectively (though it will be considerably less expensive).

5. While there has been no documentation of any dangerous side effects from hoodia the one thing that you do need to be careful about is not eating or drinking enough.  Even though you are dieting you don’t want to starve your body and the appetite suppressant can be powerful enough so that many people forget to eat.  Hoodia is also a thirst suppressant so be very careful to drink plenty of water throughout your day when taking the supplement.

6. Make sure that you enter into your diet program with the right frame of mind.  Hoodia has millions of loyal fans who swear by its effectiveness but you still have to alter your lifestyle and eat plenty of low fat, high nutrient food and get a lot of exercise if you want to see the full effects… and keep those changes permanently.

The power pop diet recommends that you have one sucker along with 8 ounces of water 30 minutes prior to each meal during the day to help you eat less and feel sated more quickly.

While hoodia power pops may sound like a dieters dream come true, it’s important to remember that they aren’t magic.  When it comes to losing weight and maintaining a safe weight for life you have to remember that it’s all about what you eat, drink and how much exercise you get.  Using supplements to help you stay on course is a great idea, but don’t enter into a diet thinking that your old habits can continue, that approach won’t work for the long run and you’ll only end up failing.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Gastric Bypass Recipes

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet, Health | Posted on 19-09-2012-05-2008

0

For anyone who has undergone the gastric bypass operation you are well aware of the challenges that can come with such a limited food intake.  You know more than anyone how difficult it can be to make sure to eat properly proportioned and prepared meals so that you not only get all the nutrients you need but you can avoid a lot of the fats, carbs, and sugars that you don’t need, and that can actually make you sick.  That’s why it’s so important to find good gastric bypass recipes, and the good news is that there are many places to look.

Of course, for several weeks after the procedure you will be greatly limited on the types of foods you can eat, at first you won’t be able to eat solid foods at all just Jell-O and protein shakes, then you will move up to pureed foods and finally, you will be able to eat most types of food.  After the surgery, don’t be surprised if the foods you used to enjoy no longer satisfy you.  Some people have reported that after the surgery they no longer liked to eat certain foods, such as meat.  This may or may not happen to you, you will be spending some time relearning what you like, and what agrees with you, and what you don’t like or what doesn’t agree with you.

One thing you will need to do is to avoid eating too much processed foods that are high in carbohydrates and sugars.  You will want to have a diet that is made up more of healthy, low or non-processed whole foods. These are more nutrient rich anyway and are better for everyone, not just those that have had the surgery.  If you eat too much highly processed carbs and sugar you will very likely get quite sick.  You will experience nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

Since there is a very real danger that you can get a ‘clog’ in your stomach, you have to make sure to thoroughly chew all of your food. For this reason you may want to avoid foods that have a very tough texture such as some cuts of meat.  Raw vegetables might also prove troublesome to some people and you may want to use mostly cooked vegetables such as cooked carrots.

There are very real, and important, things you need to consider post-surgery when it comes to preparing the best meals for your body and your overall health. If you are interested in finding gastric bypass recipes there are many places you can look but one of the first places you should check out is right at your doctor’s office.  They will most likely be able to provide you with some recipes to get you started, other than that you can find recipes online, or at your local library or bookstore.   With the increasing numbers of people who are having the surgery done, finding tasty recipes is just going to get easier and easier.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

How To Have Fun Losing Weight

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet, Fitness | Posted on 16-09-2012-05-2008

0

You know what isn’t fair? The fact that it’s so much more fun to gain weight than it is to diet and exercise. That has to be one of the real reasons why people don’t like to lose weight, right? I mean it only makes sense. If doing what it took to be at your ideal weight was more enjoyable than what it takes to gain weight, we wouldn’t have a problem with obesity.

It doesn’t have to be that way anymore. Imagine if it wasn’t such a drag to get healthy, to lose weight, to eat right or to exercise. I’m sure you can see what a positive impact that could have on how much you weigh. Here are some ideas you can put to use to make it fun.

The very first thing you have to do is change your mindset. Don’t worry about what other people think about your jogging, or what your fat friends will say when you order grilled chicken for lunch. You know why you shouldn’t worry? Because it’s your body! Let them laugh. You can laugh with them or laugh back at them. Either way, you’ll get the last laugh and that’s the best kind.

Alright, let’s face it, you probably already like to eat, otherwise you wouldn’t have to be looking for ways to lose weight. This is just a guess, but what you probably don’t enjoy is eating more of the right foods and less of the not-so-good ones. You can give the good foods funny names, and vice-versa. You’re not eating broccoli, you’re eating “goody goody mini-greens”. And it’s no longer a doughnut, now that you call it a “sweetened lard bombs”. Go ahead, be creative.

Also, don’t deprive yourself. You can still eat all of the foods you enjoy, just not as much. If you try to cut them out altogether, that wouldn’t be any fun at all. Instead you would be focusing on the deprivation and bury your head into a half-gallon of ice cream as soon as your willpower wavered. But when you eat a little of the things you like, there’s no need for willpower at all.

When it comes to exercising to lose weight the main key is to do something you enjoy doing. Just get moving. You don’t have to go for a three-mile jog or lift weights in the gym (unless you want to). Get out in the garden, go for a walk, toss the frisbee around, go swimming…any extra activity that appeals to you will burn off extra calories.

Finally, as you do these things more, it will get to be even more fun as you do them. And seeing the results is makes it even more worthwhile. So, don’t let others tell you that losing weight is hard. You know better, you now know just how fun it can be.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Hoodia Side Effects – No One Knows For Sure

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Fitness, Health | Posted on 15-09-2012-05-2008

0

Hoodia gordonii is a plant that is grown in South Africa.  This plant has a centuries old reputation for suppressing hunger and thirst and was used by bushmen as a way to keep them from getting hungry and thirsty before they set off on long dessert trek. The bushman not only didn’t show any ill effects from ingesting the plant they also spoke of increased vitality and energy.  Drug companies have spent decades trying to isolate the compound that gives hoodia gordonii it’s seemingly miraculous powers.

P57 is the compound in hoodia that is credited with helping to suppress appetite and thirst by tricking the brain into thinking it is full and satisfied thus decreasing the desire to eat and drink.  While scientists have been unable to incorporate the compound into a diet supplement, they have used the hoodia plant as a whole to create beneficial appetite suppressants.  The hoodia side effects have been shown to not exist at all.

There haven’t really been too many documented studies to verify how safe the supplement is to use as a diet aid, but evidence suggests that it has no ill effects and that actually the health benefits of weight loss would seem to outweigh any potential negative side effects of the hoodia gordonii.

One note, since hoodia gordonii can suppress thirst as well as appetite you do need to be careful to drink enough water throughout your day.  It’s very easy to get dehydrated if you wait until you feel thirst before drinking, since you won’t feel thirsty while taking the supplement.  And, obviously, since hoodia suppresses the appetite it’s important that you are careful to eat enough high nutrient foods to keep your body healthy.

As with most drugs, it’s important to use caution if you are nursing or pregnant and you should always consult your doctor before you start taking a supplement, especially if you are taking other medications, to avoid dangerous interactions.  Many people mistakenly believe that as long as the product is all natural they don’t have to worry about taking it, that is not always the case and it’s better to be safe than sorry, talk to your doctor.

Another thing to keep in mind when using, or considering using, any weight loss supplements is to not expect miracles.  There is nothing wrong with getting some extra help but you have to be willing to eat properly (enough of the right kinds of food) and get plenty of exercise.  A supplement is exactly that: a supplement.  It shouldn’t be the do all end all of your weight loss plan, be willing to make the needed lifestyle changes so your weight loss can be permanent.

Hoodia gordonii is an all natural plant that can help you accomplish your weight loss goals (when combined with a proper nutrition plan and plenty of exercise) which has gained in popularity in recent years in large part due to the lack of hoodia side effects.  As long as you talk to your doctor first and carefully following the dosing instructions, there is no evidence to suggest that you will have any negative side effects using this supplement.  Good luck on your weight loss goals.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.
