Are you always struggling to lose fat and never know what foods to eat?

Fuel your gym session and fire your metabolism with the right food.  These 27 foods fight fat and should be on your shopping list.

1. Oats

Soluble fibre makes this the perfect slow-digesting, full-for-longer breakfast on gym days.

2. Mackerel

It’s very high in taurine, which research has shown helps inhibit fat growth.

3. Cinnamon

Research has shown that the spice lowers your blood-sugar levels.

4. Pork Fillet

It’s as lean as chicken but with more flavour, helping you stick to your goals.

5. Basmati Rice

It’s not all about brown.  Of all the rice varieties, basmati has the highest levels of amylose, fat-fighting starch

6. Green Apples

The soluble and insoluble fibre slows the movement of food through the gut, so you’re full for longer.

7. Skirt Beef

Quality protein slows digestion, preventing fast blood-sugar rises that can cause fat gain.

8. Lentils

These fibre-rich pulses are digested slowly, reducing your appetite.

9. Beef Jerky

It’s high in protein, plus research shows that chewing often helps you lose weight faster.

10. Mushrooms

Shiitake mushrooms in particular are full of B3 (niacin), an essential factor in the breakdown of fats for energy use.

11. Espresso

While its caffeine can raise your metabolism, recent research shows its most potent effect is to increase performance in training.

12. Tinned Tuna

One of the leanest fish in the ocean, opt for tuna in spring water, not brine.

13. Quinoa

A good source of fibre and complete protein, this grain-like seed is also high in manganese, which is vital for blood-sugar control.

14. Sweet Potatoes

It has a lower GI than the white option, to keep hunger at bay, and is packed with health-boosting carotenoids.

15. Rocket Leaves

Load up your plate to increase fullness for minimum calories.

16. Veal Steak

Veal is one of the best sources of leucine, to protect lean muscle when calorie-cutting.

17. White Vinegar

Research found that vinegar inhibits the breakdown of starch, to slow blood-sugar rises and lower fat storage.

18. Oysters

This fish market staple is rich in zinc, which helps to regulate the appetite hormone leptin.

19. Black Tea

Black tea leaves contain theaflavin, a potent fat-burning phytochemical that steadies your energy levels, ideal after a heavy meal.

20. Salmon Fillet

It’s full of Omega-3 fats, which increase the rate of bad fat-use in your body.

21. Peas

Research found that proteins in peas control CCK, a hormone that reduces your appetite.

22. Red Onions

Chromium, found in onions, is used by your body to remove sugar from the blood, so less is converted into lard.

23. Boiled Eggs

Not only are eggs high in protein and nutrients, but studies show they decrease calorie intake during the day when eaten for breakfast.

24. Parmesan

Research found that people on high-calcium diets excrete 2.5 times more fat, so less ends up on your love handles.

25. Rye Flatbread

Flatbreads are the best low-sugar bread choice.  Rye is loaded with more gut-shrinking fibre than wheat breads.

26. Chicken Liver

It has the highest concentration of B5 found in any food.  This vitamin is a catalyst for fat-usage in the body.

27. Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt increases healthy bacteria in the gut – good for reducing your fat mass.

Dedicated to your success,

–Nigel

7 Outstanding Weight Loss Tips

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Fitness | Posted on 16-11-2012-05-2008

If you have been struggling to lose weight for longer than you’d care to admit, then you are not alone. At the same time, you have probably been misinformed, and that’s not your fault. It can be frustrating. You do everything you think you’re supposed to, but you just can’t get rid of those extra pounds. The following tips will help you with your weight loss efforts.

1. Exercise – As much as a lot of people would like to avoid it, exercise is one of the biggest boosts to losing weight. Not only will it burn calories when you’re doing it, it will also increase your metabolism and improve your overall health. Don’t worry, you don’t have to run a marathon to reap the beneficial effects of exercise. Just get moving and you will soon notice a difference.

2. Portion control – Give some thought to how much food you are putting on your plate. It’s all too common to mindlessly pile as much on our plates as the plate will hold. But we only need enough to fill our stomachs, which is usually much less.

3. Mind power – Keeping your mind sharp, refreshed and relaxed will help you cope with things that would otherwise derail whatever weight loss plan you’re on. Things such as meditation and yoga are a good way to do this.

4. Look at labels – When you are shopping for food, look at the nutrition labels. These will help you to select the foods that are lower in saturated fat, calories and refined sugar; and higher in protein, fiber and healthier fats. By doing this, you will have healthier food at home when you get hungry.

5. Grazing – The idea of eating three large meals a day is out of date when it comes to losing weight. The problem is that it gives you too much time between meals to get hungry, and the hungrier you are, the greater the chance that you will consume more calories when you finally eat. If you want to lose weight, then eat several smaller meals throughout the day. You will not only feel fuller longer, but you will also have a steady supply of fuel to get you through the day.

6. Eat, eat, eat – This is similar to the idea of grazing, but it is even more basic. It simply means that you should eat when you’re hungry. Of course you still have to give some thought to what you’re eating, but other than that, go ahead and eat when you’re hungry.

7. Drink water – Be careful here! It was a long-held belief that you had to drink at least eight glasses of water if you wanted to lose weight. However, there is now plenty of evidence that this is not true. But you should still drink plenty of water, just don’t think it will cause you to lose weight. Not only is water good for your health, but it also has no calories, and that’s a good thing for weight loss.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Lose Weight With The Cottage Cheese Diet

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 11-11-2012-05-2008

0

Over the years there have been many fad diets. For the sake of this article, a fad diet is any diet that uses a gimmick or focuses too much on one specific food or technique. By that definition, the cottage cheese diet would certainly seem to be a fad diet, but is it? Just so you know, there isn’t really a diet plan that uses cottage cheese as the only food you can eat.

Let’s face it, there would be no way anybody could stick to a diet like that. Imagine eating nothing but the same food for all of your meals and snacks. You would get so bored that you would soon go off such a diet and binge on all of the foods you were craving. Besides, it wouldn’t be very healthy and could cause more problems than it fixes.

That being said, cottage cheese is a pretty good food to eat when you are on a diet; especially when compared to other cheeses. It contains a lot of protein, making it ideal for people who are on a low carbohydrate diet. However, it contains less fat and fewer calories than other cheeses. That doesn’t mean it’s fat free, but there are some varieties that are lower in fat than others, so be sure to check the label before you buy some.

Some studies have shown that dairy foods can help you feel more full than other foods. That’s one of the reasons why the cottage cheese diet works for some people. However, you have to eat slowly so your stomach has enough time to signal your brain that you are full. If you shovel in spoonful after spoonful of cottage cheese without giving it much thought, then you will not lose weight. Eat it in reasonable amounts and slow down. It will help you feel more full and that means you will be likely to lower how many calories you take in during the rest of your meal.

Adding cottage cheese to your diet makes a lot of sense, and it can help. But at the same time, it’s not a magic food that will make you shed those extra pounds. In fact, there isn’t any magic food out there, so you need to take other steps if you are serious about wanting to lose weight.

Generally speaking, weight loss comes down to one thing: you have to burn more calories than you take in. That means you have to eat fewer calories, and burn more off. This means you will have to exercise. However, you don’t have to workout at a gym for four hours a day, or jog ten miles. Instead, just work on adding more activity to your day and do things you enjoy.

Taking a sensible approach to weight loss is what will give you the best chance of getting rid of those extra pounds, keeping them off. The cottage cheese diet may be just the thing you are looking for. Just be sure to approach your diet plan (whatever it is) with the right attitude and you’ll be down to your target weight in no time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Does The Fat Smash Diet Plan Really Work

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 07-11-2012-05-2008

0

“The Fat Smash Diet Plan” is a fairly popular diet book that was written by Ian Smith. The book took off in popularity at the same time Celebrity Fit Club was soaring in the television ratings. The Fat Smash Diet claims to be a 90 day program that doesn’t require you to count calories, and further promises that you won’t feel hungry while on the plan. Now that’s the kind of plan that most dieters are looking for!

That all sounds great, but what is the diet all about, and does it really work? Those are the questions that should be asked before you decide to start any diet program. Fortunately, the Fat Smash Diet Plan has all of the elements of a sound program. It doesn’t make a lot of outrageous claims that can’t be backed up. It’s also missing some of the elements that are so prevalent in fad diets, such as forbidding whole groups of food.

The basis of Smith’s approach is sensible eating and moderate exercise. On top of that, he strongly suggests people on the Fat Smash Diet Plan to get as much support from their friends and family as they can. This can help a lot if you normally struggle with weight loss. Plus, if you can get the support of the people who are close to you, they can encourage you and help you stick to your plan. This makes it that much easier to get rid of those extra pounds.

It’s all too common for a weight loss regimen to focus on just the food, or just the exercise, but you need to work on both if you want to lose weight. The first step of the Fat Smash Diet Plan is to detoxify your system. There isn’t any solid medical proof that this works, but it may help in some cases. If nothing else, it sends the signal to your subconscious that you are making a change for the better. This stage of the plan takes nine days. Some people experience mild side effects, so you may want to do it at a time when you aren’t too busy.

The full Fat Smash Diet Plan is comprised of four different stages. We mentioned the detox stage, here are the others:

Stage 2 starts adding new foods that were introduced during the detoxification process. These include shellfish, eggs, lean meat, and other foods high in protein.

Stage 3 adds carbohydrates in the form of wheat, pasta, bread and even some desserts (thank goodness).

Stage 4, the final stage lets you eat pizza and some other comfort foods.

Regardless of the stage, Fat Smash Diet Plan recommends that you eat smaller meals, more often, as opposed to eating three large meals during the day. This helps to keep your metabolism at a higher level, which leads to more calories burned, and that means more weight lost. Stick to the Fat Smash diet and you can be sure that you will like the results.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Weight Loss Surgery Diet – Tips For Staying Comfortable

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 03-11-2012-05-2008

0

There are many different weight loss surgery procedures but the weight loss surgery diet does not vary too much. High protein is essential to promoting healing and stimulate weight loss. But right at first the weight loss surgery patient needs to take it slowly when reintroducing foods to the digestive system.

After each procedure the pouch left by the surgery is only big enough to hold about an ounce of food. The weight loss surgery diet for the first few days following the surgery is high protein liquids only.

If all goes well, the patient can then graduate to puree or baby food consistency foods, all high protein as well. Baby food is a really good choice by the way. It is inexpensive and you can add some high protein powder to it if the protein amounts are inadequate.

When introducing more solid foods back in to your digestive system, you will be told to learn to chew your food well to avoid discomfort that can become extreme if you do not. Of course if you forget and do not chew your food well, you will only do it once. The discomfort you will feel will be very memorable and you will not forget again.

If you have already had your weight loss surgery you already know the “four rules” you need to follow regarding your follow up diet. The most important of the Four Rules is protein first. Which means that of all the nutrients taken in, patients should eat protein first, then carbohydrates, then fat.

The formula for computing how much protein you should be consuming in one day after your weight loss surgical procedure is 0.68g X your body weight in pounds = grams of protein per day. On average, protein consumption should be any were from 60g to 105g per day. Of course this is based only on a 1,200 calorie a day diet and varies on the patient and the nutritionist who is handling their case.

Some rich sources of protein you can choose from are fish, shellfish, chicken or turkey, meat and eggs. Consumption of nuts and legumes are discouraged, especially at first because they contain more fat than animal based proteins and because they are high in fiber, they are more difficult to digest.

Any foods that cause gas like fresh vegetables such as broccoli, cucumbers, green peppers, and cabbage should be avoided at all costs.

A high protein diet promotes fat loss because it takes more energy to digest protein than the amount of energy it contains so your body has to find other energy sources, like your fat stores, to completely digest the protein you ingest. So it would stand to reason that a high protein diet will trigger body fat mobilization.

Protein is important for growth and development of healthy muscle, skin, hair, nails and blood production. Protein intake is also essential for the healing process and a few extra grams of protein a day couldn’t hurt as part of a healthy weight loss surgery diet.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Instant Weight Loss – You Are Kidding Right?

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Fitness | Posted on 31-10-2012-05-2008

0

Instant weight loss, hmm, really?

When I read this, do you know what immediately went through my mind? Things like instant pudding or instant rice. Where all you do is mix it up and in 5 minutes you have pudding or rice that you can serve your family. We all know that weight loss is not like that unless, of course, you are willing to cut off a limb.

If that is the decision you have made, may I make a suggestion that you start at the top and work your way down? This is the only way you will achieve instant weight loss.

Weight loss is a process, and depending on the amount of weight you have to lose, it could even be quite a lengthy process. You must make a commitment to yourself to change the way you eat and live. You have to eat a lot less than you do now and get regular exercise every day for the rest of your life. I am never one for pulling punches so, listen up. If you do not get up off your lazy butt and get moving, you will die. Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow but your life expectancy is getting shorter and shorter every minute you sit and veg in that recliner or on that couch.

Losing weight is not rocket science. All you need to do is burn off more calories every day than you take in. Simple. If you haven’t got a clue, and I think if you think that weight loss can be instant you really don’t, here’s what you do. Put on a pair of shoes, tie them up, get up, walk to the door, open it, step outside, and go for a walk around the block. Again, simple. The sooner you start, the sooner you will accomplish your goal. People do it all the time. There is no reason you can’t do it, too.

I know you, you are the type of person who will sit there week after week watching The Biggest Loser hoping that if you watch it long enough you will go to bed one night and wake up skinny. If it was that easy no one would be fat now would they? Or you think that by watching every week you will automatically lose weight by osmosis or something, right? Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

Along with the exercise you need to learn how to eat right. Did I just hear you say you think that you do not eat that badly to begin with? Once again, you are wrong. If you ate correctly and in the right amounts you would not be fat, now would you? No, you wouldn’t be. So stop deluding yourself and get with the program. The next time you have a meal, dish up what you normally would then get another plate from the cupboard. Now, remove half of the food from the first plate and put it on the second plate, cover it with plastic wrap and put it in the fridge. Save it for your next meal. Then sit down at the table, with the TV off, and enjoy the food that is left on the first plate. Get a big glass of water to wash it all down with.

Yes, I said with the TV off. It has been proven time and time again that if you eat your meals in front of the TV you will subconsciously eat more than you think you do because you are not paying attention to what you are doing. So, start a new practice, clean off the table and before every meal, set the table with a plate, silverware and napkin for everyone in the household. Serve and eat your meal at the table. Have a conversation with your family and chew your food well.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Healthy Eating Plans For Weight Loss – Skip The Roller Coaster Diets

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 26-10-2012-05-2008

0

Roller coaster dieting (sometimes called yo-yo dieting) is a nasty cycle to get caught up in. This is a cycle where a person tries a weight loss diet for a while, loses weight, then goes off the diet. This is the down part of the roller coaster and it can feel pretty good, but it doesn’t stop there. Once off the diet, the person not only goes back to their original weight, but adds on a few extra pounds. This can wreak havoc on the mind and body, and is not healthy. So, why does this happen? There are a lot of specific answers, but they all come back to one thing: the diets themselves are to blame, not the dieters.

But you want to lose weight, right? There must be something you can do. Some of those diets sound so appealing, and a few celebrities swear by them (forget the fact that they also can afford an army of private chefs and personal trainers), so they must work. The truth is that some of them do work, but what doesn’t get mentioned is that they only work for so long…then the weight loss roller coaster starts going up, up and up again.

What you need is a way to break the cycle. What you need are healthy eating plans for weight loss. Forget all of the hype of the latest and greatest miracle diet cures, they don’t work as a long term solution.

The good news is that you can still eat all of the foods you love and don’t have to eliminate whole categories of food to lose weight. The key is to make better choices. You always have a choice, either about the food you eat, or how much of it you eat. Therefore, the first step of a healthy plan for weight loss is to take total responsibility for yourself. Nobody can force you to eat something against your will. To be blunt, you need to grow up and take a stand for your health.

If there are fattening foods that you absolutely must have, then try to eat half of your normal serving and take twice as long to do it. This way you will be able to enjoy your favorite foods. You will also learn to savor each bite, instead of just gulping it down without any thought. Doing it this way not only gives you more enjoyment form your food, it also gives your brain time to realize you’re full.

The other part of healthy eating plans for weight loss is to eat foods that are better for you. In general, you should avoid refined sugar and flour, opting for whole grains instead. Other foods to add include fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats (in moderation). The closer foods are to their natural state, the better. For example, a bowl of regular oatmeal is healthier than an oatmeal cookie.

Weight loss doesn’t have to be hard, though those who sell fad diets would like you to think differently. You can safely ignore them and follow your own healthy eating plan instead.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Don’t Be So Quick With Fast Weight Loss Diets

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 24-10-2012-05-2008

0

Fast weight loss diets are everywhere. The first thing you need to ask yourself is, are they safe? Some diet plans can do a lot more harm than good. Fad diets such as the grapefruit diet for example, may work only up to a point. When you have lost the weight and the diet is done, you go back to the same way of eating and what happens? The weight comes back and if you are not careful you may just try to make up for lost time and add on a few more pounds.

If you only have a few pounds to lose then by all means try one of the many fast weight loss diets available so you can get into that dress for the wedding. But, if you have a lot of weight to lose you will need to make some lifestyle changes to get to your ideal weight.

Take a minute to write down your weight loss goals. Keeping track of what you eat in a journal will let you see what you are putting in your body so if it needs to be changed you can change it. Writing in a journal every day is very effective in helping you lose weight.

Learn about food. When you figure out how many calories are in what you eat you will be able to put meals together that are nutritionally balanced and satisfying. Knowing what the right numbers are helps a lot too.

You can figure out how many calories you need in a day by calculating your basal metabolic rate, or BMR, or you can simply make up a meal plan that has enough food to equal 1500 calories or so.

Learning to eat differently may take some practice and careful planning. When I tell you that you need to eat small meals throughout your day you are going to say you do not have the time to do that because you are at work. Well then, I will say that yes you can with some precise planning.

You are going to start taking your lunch and snacks to work with you. Stop wasting money and gaining weight by eating out when you are at work. Save your wallet and your waistline by buying an insulated lunch box and healthy food to put in it.

Now you need to figure out what to put in it. Well, how about a 6 ounce container of yogurt and some carrot sticks. With an 8 ounce glass of water that is a great snack for the middle of the morning. For your lunch, why not have a sandwich made of lean turkey breast with some light mayo and lettuce and a cup of grapes or some baked chips. Don’t forget the pickle on the side! There are a lot of things you can do to make sure you eat small meals throughout your day.

There are countless combinations of foods for snacks and meals. Get creative, try some new things, you might find you have a broader range of foods you like therefore giving yourself even more options. Do not forget to pack enough food for two snacks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Do your best to drink enough water during the day, too. The more the better. Stay away from pop and caffeinated beverages like coffee. Caffeine has a drying effect on the body and can contribute to dehydration. Drink lots of water. A good way to figure out how much you should drink is divide what you weigh by half and drink that amount in ounces of water every day. Or you can start by striving to drink 8 – 8 ounce glasses of water each day. It is just easier that way.

If you do start one of the fast weight loss diets and there are a lot of restrictions to the diet you may need to take a supplement to get the vitamins and minerals you need.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Easy Ways To Lose Weight

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Fitness | Posted on 22-10-2012-05-2008

0

If you are looking for easy ways to lose weight, let’s just stop right here. You need to know that there is no magic potion for losing excess poundage. You are going to have to work at it, especially if you have more than just a few pounds to lose.

You can make it easier on yourself by telling yourself you are going to lose the weight no matter what. Just like breaking an old bad habit and choosing a quit date, choose a start date for your new good habit of nutrition and exercise.

Before your start date arrives, begin keeping a journal of what you eat and what exercise you get during the day. This will help you make the changes you need to make in order to lose the weight.

Get a book that shows you the amount of calories in the food you eat. Use this to create a meal plan that is no more than 1500 – 1700 calories a day and plan out five small meals each day with each meal approximately 300 calories each. Your body can process up to 500 calories per meal depending on your fitness level otherwise, the food you eat gets stored as fat.

When looking for easy ways to lose weight, know that you must take in fewer calories than your body thinks it needs on a daily basis. Add a 30 minute walk in there three times a week and you have yourself a recipe for success.

Walking is actually the best thing for you when you want to lose weight fast. You can incorporate the use of ankle and wrist weights when you get further along and are in better shape. Using weights will up the level of difficulty and help you burn more fat with each step.

Your metabolism plays a key role in whether you lose weight or gain weight. The slower your metabolism the more weight you will gain and the faster your metabolism the more weight you will lose. Never, ever starve yourself. If you try to starve yourself your body will go into survival mode and hold on to what it’s got making it virtually impossible for you to lose any weight. You have got to eat to lose weight.

Start your day and metabolism off right and have a good healthy breakfast. Follow the meal plan you have made and pack your snacks and a lunch for when you are at work then when you get home have a nice healthy supper. If you find it necessary you can have one more snack before bedtime. Eating every two to three hours will keep your metabolism in high gear and help you lose weight naturally.

So set a start date and when it comes, begin creating the new you. Do not forget to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Once you begin and start seeing results you will realize that you have found the easy ways to lose weight and you do not need any of those fad diets or supposed magic potions.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Lose Weight Recipes – Healthy But Taste Great

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 13-10-2012-05-2008

0

Are there recipes out there to help you lose weight?  A secret recipe perhaps?  There are combinations of food that will assist you in losing weight.  Make your own recipe book, “My Weight Loss Recipes”.

There are many ways to lose weight.  But is there a right or wrong way?  I believe it depends on each individual’s body chemistry.  What works for you may not necessarily work for the person next to you.

If you are counting calories, you want to focus on foods that are low in fat and high in protein and fiber.  Fresh fruit and vegetables don’t have all the unneeded bi-products.

Protein is an essential part of your diet.  Try to choose low fat protein.  Such as chicken breast without the skin, low fat yogurt, egg whites.  Protein is the building blocks of cells.  Let’s face it you want to build your muscle not break it down to be replaced by fat.

Here is a yummy recipe that is one of my favorites.  This recipe can be used as a balanced meal or snack consisting of protein, milk product, fruit and grain.  Greek Yogurt Parfait:  Layer the following:  1 cup Greek fat free yogurt, one cup of strawberries (or berry of your choosing), 2/3 cup low fat granola.  Absolutely delicious and filling!

How about a chicken club sandwich for lunch?  Lightly toast 2 slices of whole grain bread (think, fiber).  Slice a piece of grilled chicken or turkey breast (no skin, too much fat).  You can use light or fat free mayo, a dab of mustard.  Top with lettuce, ripe tomato, pickles on the side.  There you have it: low calorie, fat; high protein, fiber.

Now, what’s for dinner?  I thought you would never ask.  Marinade a pack of chicken breast (no skin) overnight (I prefer lemon-pepper). Make a mixture of cooked chopped broccoli, cream of celery.  Tenderize the chicken breast till it is as big as your hand.  Place a spoonful of broccoli mixture in the center, fold all sides, secure with toothpick.  Sprinkle Pepperidge Farm Stuffing on top, lightly sprinkle fat free cheese as well.  Place in oven 350 degrees for approximately 30-45 minutes.

There are so many different recipes out there to try to help you lose weight.  Or you can simply take your favorite recipes and put a healthy twist to it.  Making right food choices and turning that into a lifestyle change is key to long term success.
