5 Ways to Survive Christmas and New Year

I can’t believe it’s nearly Christmas already…

…this year has gone REAL FAST!

With only a couple of weeks to go I wanted to give you some tips to help you through the festive season.

For those of you that look forward to having several different Christmas dinners with family, friends and work colleagues, I’m going to show you how you can enjoy each and every one of them and still stay lean.

Here are 5 Ways to Survive Christmas and New Year

1. Use Christmas Dinner As Your Weekly Cheat Meal

If like me you’ve just had your first dinner of the season, great.

However, if have 3 or 4 big dinners planned, that doesn’t solve the problem. So we need more solutions.

2. Pick Your Treat

If your 2nd big dinner doesn’t fall on a cheat day, then you need to prioritize your preference for tasty pleasures.

At the meal, you get to choose just ONE of the treats. It could be…

– extra potatoes with gravy
– Auntie Mary’s yule log
– a glass of Uncle Bob’s hard-core eggnog
– Grandma’s famous homemade cookies

But only have ONE of the above. Pick your treat and enjoy it guilt-free.

3. Be Perfect The Rest Of The Day

From breakfast to lunch focus on protein, fiber, fruits, and vegetables. Then enjoy your big dinner. It’s that simple.

Okay, now that you know how to survive your Christmas dinners let’s take a look at how you can approach the New Year.

I could tell you not to drink alcohol at all. That would be the sensible thing to do for sure.

It doesn’t do anything for your diet, it can make it harder to lose weight, and it can throw off your workouts the next day.

But come on. We all do it! We go out, we have drinks with friends and family, and sometimes one or two drinks become several.  Just a few little things could make it all the easier to avoid hangovers, keep working out, and lessen the sometimes brutal impact that too many alcoholic calories can have on your diet.

4. Here’s My Pre-Hangover Cure

Make sure you eat something with sugar and carbs, and drink lots of fluids.  This will prevent your hangover before it starts.

5. The Secret Is To Hack Your “Buzz”

You do this by constantly ordering a pint of water along with your beer.  Drink your beer, then drink the pint of water as quickly as possible.   Then repeat the process, your buzz won’t be affected at all and you’ll still feel as drunk as any other time you go out.

You’ll have to hit the bathroom a little more often, and you may drink at a slightly slower rate, depending on how much you can take. But drinking water will allow you to:

– have a slightly more normal sleep
– go to work the next day without a splitting headache
– and most importantly, get back to your diet or exercise program

What Have You Got Planned?

Tell us about your plans for the festive season and if you have your own ways to survive Christmas and New Year?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

–Nigel

7 Outstanding Weight Loss Tips

If you have been struggling to lose weight for longer than you’d care to admit, then you are not alone. At the same time, you have probably been misinformed, and that’s not your fault. It can be frustrating. You do everything you think you’re supposed to, but you just can’t get rid of those extra pounds. The following tips will help you with your weight loss efforts.

1. Exercise – As much as a lot of people would like to avoid it, exercise is one of the biggest boosts to losing weight. Not only will it burn calories when you’re doing it, it will also increase your metabolism and improve your overall health. Don’t worry, you don’t have to run a marathon to reap the beneficial effects of exercise. Just get moving and you will soon notice a difference.

2. Portion control – Give some thought to how much food you are putting on your plate. It’s all too common to mindlessly pile as much on our plates as the plate will hold. But we only need enough to fill our stomachs, which is usually much less.

3. Mind power – Keeping your mind sharp, refreshed and relaxed will help you cope with things that would otherwise derail whatever weight loss plan you’re on. Things such as meditation and yoga are a good way to do this.

4. Look at labels – When you are shopping for food, look at the nutrition labels. These will help you to select the foods that are lower in saturated fat, calories and refined sugar; and higher in protein, fiber and healthier fats. By doing this, you will have healthier food at home when you get hungry.

5. Grazing – The idea of eating three large meals a day is out of date when it comes to losing weight. The problem is that it gives you too much time between meals to get hungry, and the hungrier you are, the greater the chance that you will consume more calories when you finally eat. If you want to lose weight, then eat several smaller meals throughout the day. You will not only feel fuller longer, but you will also have a steady supply of fuel to get you through the day.

6. Eat, eat, eat – This is similar to the idea of grazing, but it is even more basic. It simply means that you should eat when you’re hungry. Of course you still have to give some thought to what you’re eating, but other than that, go ahead and eat when you’re hungry.

7. Drink water – Be careful here! It was a long-held belief that you had to drink at least eight glasses of water if you wanted to lose weight. However, there is now plenty of evidence that this is not true. But you should still drink plenty of water, just don’t think it will cause you to lose weight. Not only is water good for your health, but it also has no calories, and that’s a good thing for weight loss.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

The Truth About The Hospital Three Day Diet

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 12-11-2012-05-2008

0

If you have tried your share of diets over the years then you know how difficult it can be to lose weight, and keep it off once you lose it. There are all kinds of diets out there, and some work better than others. What it really comes down to is how well a diet will work for you. If you are ready to see results then the hospital three day diet (it gets its name because it was reportedly developed by a hospital to help cardiac patients who had to lose weight prior to undergoing surgery) may be just the weight loss solution you have been looking for.

The hospital three day diet has recently seen a surge in popularity. This is most likely due to the claims that you can lose up to ten pounds in three days. While the best method of weight loss is to lose one to two pounds per week, losing several pounds right away can be a great way to get motivated from the start.

When you are doing the hospital three day diet you have to stick to plan exactly. Food swaps are not allowed, but it’s only for three days so it shouldn’t be a major problem. You will also have to drink a lot of water. While some versions of the hospital diet say it’s acceptable to drink diet soda in place of some of the water, it’s better to stick to water where water is recommended. Diet soft drinks may not contain calories, but they do contain ingredients that can interfere with how the hospital three day diet works.

There is a pre-planned menu for three meals per day. Then you stick to the plan for three days, then eat however you wish (within reason) once the plan is done. If you would like to lose more weight, then you can do the hospital three day diet again. However, you shouldn’t do it for more than three days in a row as you will only be taking in about 1,000 calories per day.

So, why does that matter? Why can’t you just eat 1,000 per day for the rest of your life and lose all the weight you want? Those are fair questions, but to be blunt, 1,000 calories isn’t enough. In fact, the World Health Organization says that you should get at least 1,200 per day. Anything less than that can cause serious health risks. Furthermore, taking in too few calories on a long term basis can actually lead to gaining weight. This is because the body will go into starvation mode and start storing more of the calories you take in, and it stores calories as fat.

The hospital three day diet has a very limited selection of foods, is very low calorie and shouldn’t be used too many days in a row. It can make somebody wonder whether it was really developed by a hospital or not. But what really matters is whether or not you lose weight, so it’s definitely worth trying.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Is There Any Truth To Green Tea Weight Loss – Test It

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 28-10-2012-05-2008

As a whole, people are more overweight than ever. It wouldn’t really be that big of a deal if obesity wasn’t a risk factor for a whole host of other health problems. Lately there has been some buzz surrounding green tea weight loss. Is there any truth to the potential effectiveness of such a diet?

There is substantial evidence that the Chinese have been harvesting green tea for at least the past 4,000 years. And there’s no telling how long they were using it in some form before that. So, while most people in the West think of it as nothing more than a beverage, people in the East have long revered it for its medicinal qualities as well.

Of course, Western medicine takes a different approach to how it decides what works and what doesn’t for improving people’s health. It’s almost as though they think that if something is natural, then it can’t be medicine. Well, the good news is that viewpoint is starting to change, at least where green tea and weight loss is concerned.

A physiologist by the name of William Rumpler has been studying how green tea effects the oxidation of fat and energy expenditure in the body. In simple terms, he’s seeing how green tea boosts metabolism and increases weight loss. What follows are some of his early findings.

When the study was conducted, the only compound they were able to identify as aiding weight loss was the naturally occurring caffeine. As a control, they had some participants consume water that had the same amount of caffeine. Those who drank the caffeinated water did not show the same amount of weight loss as those who drank the tea.

So, what does this mean? It means that it isn’t the caffeine in green that’s making people lose weight. Other studies have shown that green tea contains an antioxidant called catechin. This is showing some potential. It’s believed that catechin reduces how much fat the body absorbs, and may help people feel full sooner. Regardless of what is causing the weight loss, it does appear that green does, indeed, help in getting rid of excess pounds. As if that weren’t enough, green tea has more health benefits. It reduces the risk of some cancers, lowers bad cholesterol and helps flush toxins out of the body.

More studies on tea are being conducted all the time, but the proof that is already out there is pretty good. Green tea weight loss diets are based on traditional Eastern medicine, and gaining approval from Western science, as well. Drinking a few cups of green tea a day should be all you need to take some weight off. Round out the green tea with better eating and more activity and you will take off more weight and improve your overall health at the same time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Don’t Be So Quick With Fast Weight Loss Diets

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 24-10-2012-05-2008

0

Fast weight loss diets are everywhere. The first thing you need to ask yourself is, are they safe? Some diet plans can do a lot more harm than good. Fad diets such as the grapefruit diet for example, may work only up to a point. When you have lost the weight and the diet is done, you go back to the same way of eating and what happens? The weight comes back and if you are not careful you may just try to make up for lost time and add on a few more pounds.

If you only have a few pounds to lose then by all means try one of the many fast weight loss diets available so you can get into that dress for the wedding. But, if you have a lot of weight to lose you will need to make some lifestyle changes to get to your ideal weight.

Take a minute to write down your weight loss goals. Keeping track of what you eat in a journal will let you see what you are putting in your body so if it needs to be changed you can change it. Writing in a journal every day is very effective in helping you lose weight.

Learn about food. When you figure out how many calories are in what you eat you will be able to put meals together that are nutritionally balanced and satisfying. Knowing what the right numbers are helps a lot too.

You can figure out how many calories you need in a day by calculating your basal metabolic rate, or BMR, or you can simply make up a meal plan that has enough food to equal 1500 calories or so.

Learning to eat differently may take some practice and careful planning. When I tell you that you need to eat small meals throughout your day you are going to say you do not have the time to do that because you are at work. Well then, I will say that yes you can with some precise planning.

You are going to start taking your lunch and snacks to work with you. Stop wasting money and gaining weight by eating out when you are at work. Save your wallet and your waistline by buying an insulated lunch box and healthy food to put in it.

Now you need to figure out what to put in it. Well, how about a 6 ounce container of yogurt and some carrot sticks. With an 8 ounce glass of water that is a great snack for the middle of the morning. For your lunch, why not have a sandwich made of lean turkey breast with some light mayo and lettuce and a cup of grapes or some baked chips. Don’t forget the pickle on the side! There are a lot of things you can do to make sure you eat small meals throughout your day.

There are countless combinations of foods for snacks and meals. Get creative, try some new things, you might find you have a broader range of foods you like therefore giving yourself even more options. Do not forget to pack enough food for two snacks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Do your best to drink enough water during the day, too. The more the better. Stay away from pop and caffeinated beverages like coffee. Caffeine has a drying effect on the body and can contribute to dehydration. Drink lots of water. A good way to figure out how much you should drink is divide what you weigh by half and drink that amount in ounces of water every day. Or you can start by striving to drink 8 – 8 ounce glasses of water each day. It is just easier that way.

If you do start one of the fast weight loss diets and there are a lot of restrictions to the diet you may need to take a supplement to get the vitamins and minerals you need.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Master Cleanse Instructions – Jump Start Weight And Body Cleansing

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet | Posted on 21-10-2012-05-2008

0

Want to jump start your weight loss? Want to rid your body of unhealthy toxins while losing excess body fat? If you answered yes to either, or both, of those questions than you should give the master cleanse a try. For anyone who is unsure of what the master cleanse is or how you go about it, I will explain the master cleanse instructions in this article.

The master cleanse is a liquid mixture that anyone can make themselves at home with some commonly found household items. You will take this mixture in place of your meals for a ten day period. During that time you won’t eat any solid foods but rather exist solely on the cleanse mixture which can be supplemented with water, tea and clear broth.

By doing this you will lose anywhere from ten to twenty pounds (some of that weight loss will be in the form of water weight which you will gain back, but some will be in the form of excess body fat which you won’t gain back, if you eat right, that is).

During the cleanse you will also flush toxins from your body.  This isn’t the easiest of diets to stick to but for those who have, they’ve found that they have an easier time of eating healthy foods even after they’ve completed the cleanse.

That’s because the toxins in your system can have an addictive nature. The more junk you have in your system the more junk you seem to want. When you clean all the junk out, you simply don’t seem to have as many cravings as you once did which means it’s easier to stick with a good diet plan even after the cleanse.

You do have to make sure and ask your doctor if you can go on this type of diet. I’m not a doctor and I can’t give you medical advice. If your doctor says its ok than you should prepare yourself first.

To prepare yourself you’ll first want to pick a start date. Give yourself a week (or at least several days) lead time before you start the cleanse. Doing this will help you get yourself used to the idea. You can also help prepare your body by lowering the amount of calories you take in daily just prior to starting the cleanse.

If you eat your normal diet one day and try to only ‘eat’ a liquid diet the next, you’re going to find it’s very difficult to stick with. If, on the other hand, you make a slight change to the number of calories you take in as well as what types of foods you eat a day or two before you start the cleanse your body won’t be as shocked by the change and it will be easier to stick with the cleanse.

To lose excess body fat as well as detoxify your body follow these simple master cleanse instructions. Just make sure that you ask your doctor if he thinks it’s OK for you to do it. If you’re  not healthy enough for the cleanse you might do more harm than good.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

How To Lose Weight on the Thighs

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet, Fitness | Posted on 07-10-2012-05-2008

0

If you’ve got excess fat on your thighs then you probably also have excess fat throughout the rest of your body. Despite what you may have heard on various infomercials and programs there really is no such thing as “spot reducing” only one area of the body. The only way to learn how to lose weight on the thighs is to lose it all over and that takes motivation and determination. Motivation to exercise at least 30 minutes three times a week, watch what you eat and incorporate some weight training into your workouts and the determination to stick to it.

Here is something you may not know, you don’t have to kill yourself on the treadmill, the elliptical trainer, stair climber or stationary bike any more. Out with the old and in with the new. New studies have proven better and faster weight loss can be achieved by working each muscle group to fatigue during your workout by doing only one set at your maximum weight setting.  What this means is you can greatly reduce the amount of cardio training you do on the treadmill, stairclimber, elliptical trainer or stationary bike or eliminate it all together especially if you really hate it, and be honest, who doesn’t hate cardio?

Next and probably most important is your diet. Eliminate all “white” foods such as white flour, white bread, white rice and, white sugar. All of these contain carbs that convert into simple sugars in your body and get stored immediately as fat. Instead stick with a diet rich in complex carbs found in whole grains and brown rice, lean protein like boneless, skinless chicken breasts or fish, eat several servings a day of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water to flush out toxins and stay hydrated.

The general rule of thumb for taking in enough water every day is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. So, if you weigh 200 lbs you need to drink 100 ounces of water each day. Now that may seem like a lot but when you figure the average person is awake for 16 hours a day that means you would only need to drink about 6 ounces every hour. Stay away from carbonated beverages especially the diet variety. The stuff they use to make diet pop is poison and will actually trick your body into staying fat.

Remember, when you learn how to lose weight on the thighs you are learning how to improve the rest of your body as well. If you are scale averse then don’t use one. Feel the weight loss in the fit of your clothes, see the changes in your body in the mirror. Losing weight and then maintaining to keep it off should be a lifelong endeavour. Making some simple daily lifestyle changes especially in diet and exercise can go a long way in helping you reach your weight loss goals. So start today and watch the new you emerge.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Permanent Weight Loss – How To Lose Weight Fast

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Fitness | Posted on 04-10-2012-05-2008

0

When asking the question: how to lose weight fast, what you should really be asking yourself is if you want to lose a few pounds before the weekend, or do you want, and need a permanent weight loss?  It’s fairly easy to lose 5 or so pound of water weight.  That can be enough to help you avoid the bloated look when you have that hot date.  But if you’re talking about losing 20 or more pounds of fat, there really isn’t a ‘fast way’, though there are some methods that tend to be more effective than others.

First of all, go talk to your doctor.  Get your thyroid level checked to make sure everything is running properly.  If you’re body isn’t running the way it should be it will be much harder to lose all the weight you want to lose. One note here, it’s very uncommon for someone to have such a severe issue with their body that that is the reason for their weight gain.  While it can contribute to weight gain, it’s unlikely that some medical issue is the sole reason, so don’t expect your doctor to just write you a prescription and tell you that it will take care of your weight issue.

Once that’s out of the way, it’s time to get serious.  There are two main things you need to do if you want to lose weight, and if you do them properly you can optimize your weight loss efforts and help move things along a little more quickly.

One is to eat properly. Now is not the time to exist on salads and water, that will only help you pack on the pounds.  Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last several years, you’ve no doubt heard that recent research has found that your body will automatically protect itself at all costs.  That means if you don’t provide your body with all the nutrients that it needs, it will think that it is starving and it will slow down your metabolism.  By not eating enough you are actually encouraging your body to hold on to all the fat that it can.  Eating is a vital part of weight loss.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you can eat as much or whatever you want.  You want to have an eating plan that is balanced with just the right amount of proteins, carbs and fats.   Make sure you keep it all in proportion for optimum results.

You also need to workout.  Again, there are methods you can use that will help you get great results with less time.  It’s all about working smarter not harder.  Find a workout plan that isn’t stuck in the rut of thinking you have to spend endless hours on the treadmill to lose weight.  By learning the proper technique you can cut your workout routines in half, or more, and still get amazing results.

This article has provided you with the basics of how to lose weight fast.  It’s up to you to put this information into action. The sooner you do, the sooner you’ll have the body you’ve always wanted.  Good luck!

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

How Can I Lose Weight And Body Fat In 2 Weeks

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Articles, Diet, Fitness | Posted on 28-09-2012-05-2008

0

It’s getting to be that time of year again, weddings, graduations, class reunions, etc.  So many people have some event coming up in a few weeks that one of the most common questions being asked around this time of year is: How can I lose weight in 2 weeks?

Humans share some common traits and procrastination is one of them.  We all knew that we had this big event coming up, we’ve probably known for weeks or months, yet here we are waiting until the last minute to get ourselves in shape for the big day.  Why we do this no one knows but most of us are guilty of it at some point or another.

Before I can answer the question of how you can lose weight before your big event, it’s important for you to understand that most of the weight you’ll lose in just a few weeks will only be water weight and you will gain it all back once you start eating and drinking more normally.

If you want to permanently lose weight you’ll need to lose body fat, not just water, and to do that you’ll need to incorporate decent eating habits with some steady form of physical activity.  There are some supplements that may be able to help out a little but ultimately it’s about diet and exercise if you want a permanent weight loss.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you want to lose weight you absolutely don’t want to starve yourself.  If you don’t provide your body with the nutrients it needs it will simply ‘shut down’ and not run as efficiently to conserve resources.  Your body will think that it is starving so it will make sure to hold on to all the fat stores it can in order to keep itself alive.

The best thing you can do for a real weight loss is to keep your body fuelled all day, every day.  If you feel hungry then your metabolism has already slowed down to the point where it isn’t working efficiently enough.  You should eat at least 5 or 6 times every day to keep your metabolism firing hot so you can lose weight and keep it off.  Now, that doesn’t mean you gorge yourself on huge meals all during the day but rather you eat healthy, balanced meals throughout the day.  When you keep your body fuelled it has no reason to conserve energy so it will keep running hot the whole time.

OK, I promised you I’d give you some hints to lose weight before that big event. The first thing you have to realize is that you will only be able to lose around 5 or 10 pounds using this method and the weight loss is really only going to be water weight so it won’t be permanent.  It’s also important to remember that you can actually become dehydrated so you really shouldn’t plan on doing this for very long.

For those of you who want to know how can I lose weight in 2 weeks, two of the quickest methods to lose weight is to detox and do a lot of cardio. Remember, these aren’t permanent solutions but if you do a lot of cardio and you sweat a lot you can lose weight.  Also, by detoxing your body you can make sure that your digestive tract is working properly which will assure you that you aren’t all ‘bound up’ and that can lead to a weight loss as well as take away the bloated look.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for reading.

Change Of Lifestyle For Fast Weight Loss

Posted by Nigel Jeal | Posted in Cardio, Fitness | Posted on 24-09-2012-05-2008

0

Melinda often wakes up in the morning and becomes ashamed of herself as she stares in the mirror at her reflection. After having three children, Melinda has managed to keep some of the fat that often comes with pregnancy.

It sickens herself to know she looks like this.

There are various ways to help Melinda and others who need to lose weight fast. A fast weight loss program is essential and crucial way to lose weight fast. One of the common resources is articles on the Internet. Thousands of articles if not a hundred million, for people who are in Melinda’s situation or just want to lose weight fast.

The key to fast weight loss is to be aware of how much and what foods you consume. In a busy day of many, some are unable to carefully evaluate whether or not the food choices they are making are right for them and their bodies. After providing for the family and cooking a meal, Melinda and other women still have daily chores and other tasks they need to perform, so they skip a meal to get things done faster, at least they hope to.

Skipping meals won’t help you gain results quickly, in fact it’s more harmful to your body and can have the opposite effect. The people who are skipping their meals are slowing down their metabolism. In achieving a fast weight loss it’s crucial you speed up your metabolism so your body can process more calories and burn fat in the process. These people also develop a habit of eating more whenever they can, because they skipped a meal.

To aid in a fast weight loss diet, drinking water and natural fruit juices will help to shed those pounds. It’s advised you drink at least 8 glasses of liquid (preferably water) during the day and sweet processed products are your enemy. Things to avoid include chocolate, cookies, and ice cream.

Generally a rule of thumb when grocery shopping is to stick with the outer isles. The outer isles are healthy for you and there are less processed foods that can sneak into your cart when you’re not looking(blame the kids or the spouse). Taking the time to prepare your family healthy meals in advance will not only give your family the nutrients they need but it will also help you keep track of your fast weight loss program.

Women tend to think that they do not need exercise because of the exhaustion that’s heaped on them after a day at work and then the time and tedious task of maintaining the home and taking care of the kids. Regular exercise is beneficial to everyone, young and old alike. Exercise will help you in the fast weight loss program. Doing something so simple as ten crunches a day, as an example will flatten that bulge of fat you call a stomach, if done regularly. However, you will need to increase the amount of crunches as days pass.

In order to achieve a fast weight loss, you have to have the will and determination to lose weight and to change your life. This is the effective in a fast weight loss program.

If you want to see results quicker remember these four things, as they are crucial to a fast weight loss program to be successful.

Exercise-Is important and will help you to reach your goal faster while making you more fit. A regular work out will help to make you stronger and more lean, if you don’t have a work out set perhaps you could take a dip at the local pool and exercise there. Water helps to exercise you without putting as much of a strain on the joints.

Eat Healthy- Never skip meals, but also remember to not eat anything sweet. Stick to the outside isles!

Drink-Water  liquid is essential to keep our bodies functioning. Just like a car. No oil, no car. The same applies to you. No water, not a healthy you. Drink at least 8 cups of water to help flush the pounds.

Sleep-Just like water, sleep is crucial to maintain your well-being. Studies have recently shown that while you sleep your body is processing calories, just at a slower rate. However this does not mean you can stuff yourself before you go to bed and not have to worry about it affecting your fast weight loss program.

Keep these things in mind and you’re on your way to a fast weight loss.
